New Buck Mark Plus UDX - First Time Out

I'm picking up my new Buck Mark next week. What should I do to it before shooting it for the first time? Do I need to take it apart and clean or oil anything in particular? Or can I just put a little oil on the slide?

I field strip and clean my Beretta after each time I use it. Is the Buck Mark any different?

It should be cleaned before the first use. It has a rust preventative coating on it. The manual has instructions on what to do. Enjoy your Buckmark.

I make sure the slide is oiled well before hitting the range.

BTW, that is the same model I have and it is a great shooter. It took a little breaking in, but it now runs flawlessly. It may be I had to learn how to clean and oil right. Possibly crappy ammo. I really prefer CCI 22LR rounds.

You will love it. Mine has been excellent. It wouldn't hurt to field strip it, clean it, and lube it first. Be careful that the extractor and spring don't go flying when you take it down.

Just like any firearm, its always a good idea to field strip them down... Wipe down the parts, then apply a good lubricant.

While you do this, you look for things that seem out of the ordinary. You inspect and ensure its good to go. You just want to ensure the basic functions are working, especially the safety and disconnector... And you want to ensure the barrel is clear of debris.

Do not field strip the BuckMark per Browning manual. Oil the slide and work it back and forth a hundred times while empty. Run an oiled boresnake thru the pistol. Go have fun shooting it. Mine does nicely with CCI Mini Mags or Federal bulk -- 1250 fps. Clean the barrel with a wet boresnake (eg Hoppes) plus clean up the chamber thoroughly with a cue tip etc. That is all that is needed as per Browning manual.

Maybe I did it wrong but . . .

Maybe I did it wrong but I took my Buckmark out of the box, loaded up and shot the snot out of it. Ran a bore snake through it every ten shots or so for the first couple hundred. I have cleaned it off and on in the year or so I've had it. With a scope on a sand bag it shoots one inch groups at 25 yards.

You are gonna have a good time with your Buckmark.

Great choice in a .22LR pistol. So much better than the overpriced potmetal service pistol clones out there that are so popular these days.

When we were regulars at the local steel challenge matches for rimfire pistols, there were mostly only three makes of pistols there.
Rugers and Buckmarks mostly with an occasional S&W.
Kind of says it all.
Enjoy.

I bought a BuckMark Micro Target, a couple of years ago. Sold it. Bad decision. Those guns are good. I was shooting a S&W Model 41, a S&W Model 422, a Ruger Mark iii Target and a Hammerli Xesse Sport during that same period. I didn't have enough experience to realize the Micro wasn't in the same class as a couple of the others; and, because I didn't care for the way it broke down I sold it.

I'd love to have another one. A Micro Target model, that is.
