I did a search on this sub-forum before posting and didn't see anything that matched, if this is old news, sorry. Mod, lock away if need-be

Looks like Browning has released a BPS to compete with the HD models of the other manufacturers. I've already got an order in with my GS. $419

Problem? Guess I was lucky in the 7-8 years I shot my grandfathers BPS out duck hunting, never once had a problem with it. I switched to his from my old B-80 because it wasn't reliable in the weather.

liliysdad, which model Ithaca is this based on? I'd like to find out a little more about the issue with the lack of ejection port.
 
The BPS is an Ithaca 37 derivative. The issue with no ejection port is pretty much moot on a hunting rig, but on a defensive shotgun, it is vital, IMO. The lack of the ejection port prohibits one from performing Pick-A-Slug drills, and makes it more difficult to clear malfunction in a timely manner.
 
Pick-a-slug drills? That's where you directly load a slug, skipping the tube magazine, right?

I don't know about the BPS, but with the Ithica, you can pull the forearm back, flip the gun over, push a slug down into place, and close it, loading the slug.

I don't know much longer it would take, or even if it would take any longer, but it's doable.
 
I have played with an Ithaca, and it takes a LOT longer than a gun with an ejection port.


However, I have where Michiguns is adding an ejection port ot the BPS aftermarket, and it looks like a pretty slicj deal, if you are attached to the BPS. IMO, there are better guns that already have this feature, but the BPS should prove to be a serviceable choice. I really dont see that they will capture much of the market, as it is already grossly controlled by the 870 and Mossberg 500/590.
