New Book Jesse Ventura

For my first post I would like to gave a short report on a new book just our by Jesse Ventura-govenor of Minnesota.I am libertarian by nature even though I voted for Bush this past election. I think Ventura wrote this book as a primer for his 2004 presidential bid. The books title is DO I STAND ALONE and he wonders if he is the only politician who thinks as he does. The book is laid out just like a school text book with a table of contents, headings, subheadings etc. He is pro constitution and pro bill of rights,he believes that the 2nd amendment was laid out by the founders of this country to protect us from a corrupt goverment as well as for self protection. He also thinks that forcing people to register their firearms is wrong and that such an action can be used by the goverment to disarm the all of us. He also goes on to say that lawsuits against gun manufacturers is ridiculous. He has a few things to say about the media(all bad)welfare(use goverment to help when needed but concentrate on helping people help themselves)health care (doesn't support national health care and thinks minnesota's hmo is ok)Gay Rights(supports a legally recognized domestic partnership)Womens Rights (supports them)and is not pro abortion. He is all for legal immigration but against any illegal immigrants and their rights. I could go on and on--it's a good read.He says near the end of the book that if asked he would be a running mate with SEN John McCain. He really believes that a 3rd party is needed to offsett the other 2 parties and gives reasons why. This post is long enough so I'll end by asking if there are any TFL's from MN that can fill us in on this guy.Is he for real,Has he done any good in MN or is he just a blowhard? I would recommend this book to anyone,It's entertaining and thought provoking.

He's a Blowhard!

A man of himself. Every thing he does is for Jesse and no one else. He lied when he ran for office and has not done what he said he was going to do. He is fast becoming the same as any other poiltician.

He said he would do everything he can to get CC in Minnesota. In fact he was denied a carry permit when he was mayor and as soon as he was Govenor he magically gets a permit to carry and hasen't mentioned CC since.

He stated he would give 100% of the states surpluses back from US overpaying on taxes back to the people. Well we didn't get anywhere near 100% back.

Now we have the XFL deal. Jesse is going to do anouncing for the new XFL football league which sounds like a totally tasteless event. The best part is he is a state employee and required by state law to have 24 hour security so guess who gets to pay for he security when he is out making millions doing stuff for the XFL? Yep that's my tax dollars. And how does this bennift me as a Minnesotan? It doesn't!

Jesse needs to go away the faster the better.

He hates the local media and said he wouldn't talk to the press unless it was about the state of Minnesota guess that didn't count for the late night talk show visits which boost Jesse.

I said it before and I'll say it again Jesse is only concerned about Jesse.

Well, I don't know a lot about Jesse, but ...

... a libertarian who is a self-promoter doesn't sound inconsistent to me. Free enterprise ... ;)

fasteddie, welcome to TFL! You're going to love it here. And, nice report ... thanks.

I find one thing pretty odd - Jesse would run with John McCain? Wow. I think Jesse should carefully reevaluate that thought. McCain is a statist, and not terribly supportive of the RKBA. McCain is the turncoat who recently did those disgusting commercials in CO and OR to help destroy their freedom to transfer firearms between private individuals - gun shows under attack.

McCain might was well complete the conversion and become a Democrat.

Being from MN and seeing his crap on a daily basis - I'm with G35MN 100%. I'd just like to add that he is not a libertarian, nor is he independent he's democrat through and through - he talks a good game but when it's time to lace up the cleats he lines up with the DFL (Democratic Farmer Labour Party).
Libertarian huh? Does a 15% tax increase sound like a libertarian? How about spending more on light rail for a 12 mile strip than on all of the rest of the roads in Minnesota in a year? Buses are not even making that much money now your going to dump a ton of money into something that will never be viable?
CCW- that's a huge joke too

Jesse "the babbling idiot" Ventura - its not even his real name...

So what?

Yah, and John Wayne wasn't his real name either. So what? I know for a fact that Mr. Ventura did get all Minnesotans a tax refund. Yah, it wasn't 100% of the surplus, but do all of you really think that Jesse is THE government? Or have you all forgotten that he has to deal with all the other bozo's in your two state houses? Didn't get CCW? Neither did we here in Colorado, after Gov Owens made that a plank he ran on and that was why so many firearms owners voted for him. No governor acts in a vacuum. You want CCW? Go grass roots, which is how JV got elected in the first place.

You don't like Jesse's politics? Is he better than current President Clinton? How about Prez wanna be Al Gore? Are his politics any better/worse than Prez elect Bush?? The true answer is, politicians are pretty much all the same. Why? Because if they aren't 'the same' then, 'we duh pipple' won't 'hire' them for a term in gubbmint.

Give me a break with Mr. Ventura. He speaks his mind and lets the chips fall where they may. Enough people in Minnesota 'fell' for his line to get him elected governor. Now, if he runs for a second term (against everything he's said), then you can claim him to be 'just like all the others - only concerned with Jesse'. And you fault him for looking out for number one? Give me another break. That makes him just like 99.9999% of the rest of the population here on earth. I would love to hear about a politician that doesn't look out for number one. Chances are, that politician won't be working for ANYONE very long.

When was the last time that someone else looked out for YOUR best interests? Doesn't happen very often, does it? Kinda sad in a way.

I'm another from Minnesota that is not fooled by this odd fellow.

In addition to what others have mentioned:

*Whenever he complains about a party, it is always the Republicans he complains about. I can't say he has never complained about the Dems, but I pay attention...and I've never heard him knock Democrats.

*Within the past month or so, he was making noise about his party (The Independence Party - he broke from the Reform Party some months ago) joining up with the Green Party. No libertarian would ever consider this as the Greens are leftist to the hilt.

Do not be fooled into thinking this guy is not leftist. He may have CCW, but so does Diane Feinstein.

Regards

I also agree that Ventura is a blowhard. He literally takes every criticism aimed at him or his policies as a personal affront to him. You would think that his proposals and thoughts are edicts of the sun god and are flawless. The term 'thin-skinned' is pretty appropriate when describing him.
When it comes to shooting, when has he shown himself at a shooting range with one of his guns? There was word that he has an AR15 carbine and an SP89 that he was pictured with in a TV interview. I'd like to see him out there. Even Clinton was out there with a shotgun during duck hunting season. While we know what Clinton was about in his words and actions, Ventura has not even tried to do a P.R. shot of himself as a gunowner, just to remind people that he is a gun owner. And his poorly worded statements he lets out on the issue of guns ('lets arm all the school janitors to prevent future Columbines') only makes him sound like the last person to be suggesting policies that broaden or re-open lost rights of gun owners.
And the light rail proposals he supprts would only serve to create something surpassing 'Ironworld' (think of it as 'Disneyland' for the open pit mining industry, and promoted by the last Democratic goveror to hold office) in waste. He is not the governor most people voted for in 1998 (and I did not vote for him).

I think jessy got like 35% of the vote (it was less than 40% for sure) - far from a "mandate".

And for all his talk during the election for CCW - NOT ONE WORD AFTER HE GOT ELECTED. He got his - scr*w everone else.

Wanna buy a doll? He comes in six different outfits - except the Seal Doll doesn't come with a gun (don't want to offend the Bed Wetting liberals...)
How about a book or two (you really do stand alone - mostly cause your nuttier than a Chinese chicken salad...) Maybe a t-shirt, they make great x-mas gifts? How about you watch me on the WWF or XFL?

Here's another thing - I've never used pot, and could care less if anyone else does. It's no secret that Ventura is a "fan" of dope - another thing he campaigned on - yet has not backed up his "convictions." Probably since he's got two state troopers to cover his six, he doesn't have to worry about getting caught - "I got mine - scr*w everyone else..."

No governor acts in a vacuum.

That's a good point.

Even so, a governor (or other elected official) does have some power -- the question to ask is how he chooses to use it. I think that what has the Minnesotans upset is that Ventura has chosen to push for a money-wasting light rail project instead of CCW reform.

Here in Ohio, our governor (Taft) told gun owners during the campaign that he supported some sort of legal CCW. But now that he's in office, not only has not worked for it, he's actively opposed CCW reform in spite of clear majorities in both houses of the legislature for it. And then the leaders of the Ohio house and senate say that they aren't going to force the issue because they don't want to embarass a fellow Republican.

I have to wonder: If we had elected the anti-gun Democrat governor, would the GOP legislature be ramming a CCW bill down his throat just out of spite?

I almost voted for Jesse base upon his pro second ammendment stance on his radio talk shows. I had some second thoughts (no pun intended) about his stance on other cultural issues, and as it turns out, I am glad that I had those second thoughts, and could not complete the arrow for him.
He has gone mute on CCW, although to his defense, he has talked about the Second Ammendment in a positive light on several national TV appearances. I believe he would align with gun owners on that issue, but he strays too far off of the path on social and cultural issues for the mostly conservative (culturally) Minnesota gun owners. Even the democrats are culturally conservative in Mn, but they like the social programs to help out the little guy. That is my opinion, FWIW.
Jesse has also surrounded himself with democrats who are pro light rail, and pro limited growth. These politicians tend to also be anti second ammendment, and that is maybe why he has held his breath on that issue. Again, just my $.02 worth.
