Well, I finally entered the world of SA revolvers. Went to a show on Saturday looking for a blued Bisley Blackhawk in .357 and left with a stainless Bisley Vaquero with faux ivory grips. At least the caliber was the same.
I had wanted the adjustable sights, but really wasn't too psyched about the fugly front sight, unfluted cylinder, or long barrel on the Bis-Black. Luckily for me, there weren't any at the show (none, regardless of caliber), but there were several Bis-Vaqs. When the guy pulled out the polished stainless unit my heart started fluttering and I knew I was lost to revolver lust. 20 minutes later she left with me. At $409 it was one of the more expensive first dates I've been on. One guy had blued models for $369, which seemed a good deal, but oh, that stainless... The price I paid seems to be a very good deal for SS with "ivory", at least around here.
Took it to the range Sunday, and my first cylinder of .357s put a single quarter-sized hole in the center of the target, from a rest at 10 yds. I know the distance wasn't much, and it was supported, but I could not believe that one-hole group. I've never done that with any pistol, much less a fixed sight "cowboy" gun.
The .38s I tried didn't group quite as well, but still respectably. At 25 yards it wasn't too shabby either. Considering I much prefer the styling on the Bis-Vaq vs. the Bis-Black I couldn't be happier. This is a keeper.
Anyone got a set of Bisley wood grips they no longer want? I want to see what my new baby looks like in furniture. Not that I dislike the faux ivory, but a girl can't have too many outfits. Upon seeing it, my wife said, "Well howdy, Duke." I'm not sure if she was talking to me or the gun. But maybe the name will stick. (I'm kinda partial to "Cricket", but then, I just saw MiB again last night...)
