New Beretta??

Kentucky Rifle

New member
Last night I went by the magazine rack in the supermarket as my wife shopped and one of the mags had an article on a new Beretta. It was like a scaled down 92. Just a smaller version. This looked great to me and I should have purchased the mag. Has anyone else seen this little automatic? Or better yet, actually fired it?

Thanks,
KR

Are you refering to the Beretta 9000?

It's getting new write ups because Beretta has tried to fix some of the 9000's biggest problems and is trying to get people to buy them again.

Are you refering to the 92 L, type M? It is a single stack 8 round Beretta 92.
There is also the Custom Carry II, which is a fance 92 L, type M.

They have a stainless slide, with red sights - kind of a hard combination to see.

I'd like to get one of these also. It seems very controllable and I like the trigger.

There is also the 92 FC, which is a 13 round cut-down 92.

I saw an article about a new model that is just a 92 and/or 96 with a straight backstrap on the grip instead of a curved one. It decreases the trigger reach. Sorry, I don't remember the model number.

It's the new Beretta Vertec. It's a modified Series 92 pistol with thin grips, a straight backstrap, equipment rail machined into the dust shield, and dovetailed front sight.

They look kind of funky...I have yet to hold one, but if it feels good in my hand, I'll probably end up buying one.

I'll try and get the magazine today.

It looked NOTHING like a 9000. I was running out of time but, from the quick look I got, it looked like a smaller 92. I hope I'm right. I've wanted a 92/96 for a long time, however both are just to big. I don't like to buy a pistol that I can't hide well.

Skunkabilly (How DID you get that name?)

Anything is possible. However, I don't think it was a Cheetah. I've often thought about getting a Cheetah. Looked at the pictures a lot. That flip-up barrel looks like just the ticket for fingers that are a little stiff. I suppose I could be mistaken. I try to read as many gun rags as quickly as possible while the wife shops. (So I can decide which ones to buy!) However, I sure remember the title as being "A New Beretta". Like I say, I could be all wet. (Or maybe it was "wishful thinking"!) I'll go back tonight and purchase the mag and leave a "for sure" post.
Right or wrong.
Man! Now you've got me thinking about that Cheetah again.:D

KY Rifle...I saw the samw mag last night. I think they were talking about that new .22lr that looks like some ray gun Buck Rogers would have. I forget the name..something like Nevo or something.

lendringser is correct. . . You saw Beretta's new Vertec.

Shake

U22 Neos.

Kentucky, if it was Shooting Times (?) I know they had a bunch of Beretta products on the cover--a Neos (.22 plinker), Vertec, 9000, one of the Cheetahs and maybe the Elite II.

Shake...

Yeah! That's a possibility. If the Vertec has a shorter barrel than the 92/96, then I'd say that's definately what I saw.

Lendringser: I NEED a 9MM. The Vertec just might be "carry size". As much as it pains me to do it, I've decided to wait on the new little polymer Kahr 9MM. Read some reviews...try to make a decision with my head, rather than with my heart. (The "neato" factor:o . Get's me, lots!)

Ol' easily fooled Kentucky Rifle.

Kentucky,

I believe that is what you saw. I was in the grocery store the other day to and probably saw the same article you saw.

The barrel on the Vertec is shorter and you'll notice that the shape of the grip has changed. You can read about the Vertec here: Beretta-L List

KY Rifle.

Why don't you get a Kel-Tec P-11 while you're waiting for the Kahr to come out? You wouldn't want to buy a new design right away anyhow till the bugs are worked out.

The mystery is solved.

Shake: Thanks for the information! This is one great looking Beretta! It also could be the 9MM I've been waiting for. I was just about to "abandon all hope" and go for that new Glock 19 for $489.95 which has been calling out to me for months. :)

Alamo: Tom, you may be right. I have an "earilier" model P-32 that went back to the factory for a new gray grip frame. I sent it on a wednesday afternoon and (shockingly!), I received it back on friday of the same week! I read the work order and the smith had replaced ALL the internal parts, given me a stronger recoil spring, and replaced that rough, lined extractor with a smooth one. PLUS, gave me a new gray grip frame...ALL FOR FREE! I haven't even had a rim lock with my P-32!

Since you have a fondness for small guns (so do I), you'd probably like the P-11. As you've probably read, the trigger is long (but not really heavy 8.5 or so lbs.). Cost is in the low $200s around here so not a big expense - will leave you plenty of funds for your Glock 19, Beretta, and all the other items on your shopping list.

It would also be a good excuse to buy another Hedley holster. He makes a front pocket version.

If you want a good midsize Beretta, check out the 8000 Cougar. It has a 3.6" barrel and shorter trigger reach. It comes in 9mm, .40, .357Sig and .45.

There's also another model, the Cougar D mini 8000, with a two-finger grip for greater concealability. It comes with optional mag extensions for a full-size grip.

The 8000 series was designed for NATO concealed-carry. It has a reputation for reliability and accuracy. If you want a "midsize 92," the 8000 is a solid option.

I found a good Web page showing virtually ALL the Beretta configurations (except Vertec) including the Cougar and mini Cougar. If you look at Row 5, Column 2 you'll also notice a sweet-looking 92/96 COMPACT in 9mm/.40. I didn't even know Beretta HAD a 92/96 compact! Maybe that's what you saw. I'll have to look around for that, too. Looks sweet! Hell, there's even a Cougar L 8000; a cut-down 8000 with an even shorter barrel and smaller 3-finger grip!

Looks like there are more options than I realized! Have fun shopping!
