New barrel in M&P 2.0 Compact?

I'm thinking about buying a 2.0 Compact in .40 S&W, then putting in a barrel to shoot .357 SIG. But, since the Compact is new on the market, I haven't found any barrels for it.

However, there are .357 barrels for the "standard" size M&P, with the same barrels working in both the 1.0 and 2.0 versions.

The new 2.0 Compact is listed by S&W as having a barrel of 4 inches.

The "standard" size has a barrel of 4.25 inches.

Does anybody know if the 4.25-inch barrel will fit into the 2.0 Compact?

I expect the answer is "yes" for fitting the ejection port, but if the Compact slide is too short, it may not be possible to drop the longer barrel into the slide. A quarter of an inch may be too much extra length. If it does fit into the slide, there would be a quarter inch of barrel sticking out of the front of the slide, but that is not a problem. It would just look like a cousin of the Beretta 92 :D

Does S&W answer this sort of odd question by email?

Who sure likes the .357 SIG in a P239.

I'd be less worried about the length, and more worried if they changed the locking block geometry between the 1.0 and 2.0.

From what I've seen on the highly accurate interwebs, the barrel manufacturers are saying that barrels which fit in a 1.0 pistol will also fit and work in the corresponding 2.0 pistol. So the 4.25 inch barrel will work in either "standard" pistol.

That is why I may end up getting the 2.0 standard size, which is just 0.25 inches longer in barrel (and slide) than the new 2.0 Compact. I am not really wanting the extra 2 rounds in the larger grip. I don't really know which way I will go to get my .357 blaster, except I'm not leaning toward SIG.

I got a chance to hold a standard 4.5-inch M&P 2.0 at the weekend Washington Arms Collectors gunshow, and found the grip size to be just fine for me. So I am now planning to get the 4.25-inch barrel in .357 and buy the 4.54-inch M&P 2.0 in .40 caliber.

No drama, no problems, plug-n-play in 2 calibers. How could it get any better?
