Where the heck did these guys come from?
I was alerted to this by an ad in Creative Loafing, an "alternative weekly newspaper" here in Atlanta. The ad reads "First Monday 2000 - Unite to End Gun Violence". The ad promises a "Night of Education and Activism including a screening of the new documentary short, America: Up In Arms", at the Georgia State University Speaker's Auditorium.
Oh, yeah - Kalifornia seems to be their model: "Californians have successfully pressed for local legislation to reduce gun violence. " Yes, were I to visit, I'm sure I would feel much safer in East L.A. as a result of all the new anti-rights legislation in PRK.
Here's their web site: First Monday 2000
Monday, 10/2/2000 was selected as the kickoff date for their "activist" push because it's the start of a new Supreme Court session. They have meetings announced throughout the country, at many universities. They appear to be somehow related to MMM, their web site is very well put together / produced. These guys bear watching.
Ahh - here's something:

quote:
First Monday is an annual, national initiative coordinated by the Alliance for Justice in conjunction with Physicians for Social Responsibility. Highlighting a different justice issue each year, the First Monday campaigns seek to inspire and mobilize a new generation of advocates to further the cause of justice.[/quote]
So maybe this is just a one-time deal. Let's hope so.
