Where the heck did these guys come from?

I was alerted to this by an ad in Creative Loafing, an "alternative weekly newspaper" here in Atlanta. The ad reads "First Monday 2000 - Unite to End Gun Violence". The ad promises a "Night of Education and Activism including a screening of the new documentary short, America: Up In Arms", at the Georgia State University Speaker's Auditorium.

Oh, yeah - Kalifornia seems to be their model: "Californians have successfully pressed for local legislation to reduce gun violence. " Yes, were I to visit, I'm sure I would feel much safer in East L.A. as a result of all the new anti-rights legislation in PRK.

Here's their web site: First Monday 2000

Monday, 10/2/2000 was selected as the kickoff date for their "activist" push because it's the start of a new Supreme Court session. They have meetings announced throughout the country, at many universities. They appear to be somehow related to MMM, their web site is very well put together / produced. These guys bear watching.

Ahh - here's something:

quote:
First Monday is an annual, national initiative coordinated by the Alliance for Justice in conjunction with Physicians for Social Responsibility. Highlighting a different justice issue each year, the First Monday campaigns seek to inspire and mobilize a new generation of advocates to further the cause of justice.[/quote]

So maybe this is just a one-time deal. Let's hope so.

I sent them an e-mail.I told them how russia, mexico, and brazil have tough gun laws and have higher homicide rates than us.

Protest Civil Rights Violations in Stoughton

There will be a Civil Rights Protest in the town of Stoughton this Saturday. It concerns property rights, employer/employee rights, homeowner/landlord rights,
victim's rights and firearm owner rights! The Stoughton Police Department arrested one citizen when he tried to complain about how he was being treated by a police
officer during his license renewal process. A reporter asked to see the police log and told us, "I thought I was going to be arrested." Two GOAL members were
threatened with arrest for trespass in a public building (courthouse) because they tried to "shush" the Stoughton Police. For more information, refer to the article
about Don Going to Court in the September issue of The Message.
Join the protest to restore citizen's civil rights in Massachusetts!

When: September 30, 2000
Where: Stoughton town center
Time: Saturday 9am to 12pm
Contact Don Schwarz at 781-344-5405 for more information!

Educate the Misinformed

We also wish to point out that there will be events occuring statewide on Monday October 2, 2000. Dubbed "First Monday" by the Physicians for Social
Responsibility, it is intended to rally students like the Million Mom March. The antis will be holding a rally on the steps of the Statehouse. The speaker will include
the likes of Senator Cheryl Jaques and representatives from Stop Handgun Violence. They have invited college students from the Boston Area to attend. A press
conference is scheduled for around 10am.

Your opportunity for activism? Join the grass roots effort of CTIP. That stands Citizens for Truth in Politics. They need the good people to educate these misguided
students. If you can go to the State House, please contact CTIP coordinator Larry Savage
