I thought I'd take a minute and explain what I've done to my most recent gun purchase.
About 5 weeks ago I purchased a new Remington 870HD with the factory 2 round extension. I took it out and shot 100 rounds through it to get a feel for it and then I started to improve it and 'make it mine'. (don't most of us do that?)
First thing I did was install a Vang Comp safety to replace the POS 'j' lock :barf: that the factory installs and I hate.
Next was to install a set of sling swivels and sling.
Then came a Wilson Combat follower.
Then I started to think about that darn plastic trigger group. I know there is probably nothing wrong with them and they will most likely last a lifetime but I really like the aluminum ones and that's what matters. I started searching ebay and saw several decent used ones but I wanted a new or nearly new one to match the newness of my 870. After about 2 weeks I saw a beautiful, like new, one that had just been listed and had a 'Buy It Now' price that I couldn't resist. Well, when it arrived it was absolutely like new. Not a scratch and no wear marks at all. It had a non-flex tab carrier so I removed the one from my plastic group and it fit perfectly. I also removed the Vang Comp safety and put it in the new aluminum group. The aluminum group fits nicer and lines up with the receiver base better than the plastic one did. The trigger pull is much nicer also. And man, does it ever look nice! Now I have my 'New and Improved' 870 where I want it.
I don't know when this aluminum trigger group was made but the quality of it is really top notch. It was obviously made prior to the flex tab introduction, whenever that was. Interestingly, while the flex tab carrier fit great in the older trigger group, the plain old carrier doesn't fit in the plastic assembly
That's all the 'improvements' for the time being. Now it's time to go shoot it some more
