Just got back from my first visit to the new Academy Sports that just opened up here in Columbia. Went straight to the gun counter to check out their selection and prices. Long gun prices were ok, but their handgun prices were a bit high. Overheard a conversation between a coustermer and clerk that went like this:
customer: "Can I look at that?" (points to the S&W 500 revolver)
clerk: "Sure!"
customer: (turns to his buddies) "Check this out!"
clerk: "Yeah, it's a 50 cal."
customer: "50 cal? Like a Desert Eagle?"
clerk: "Yep. They shoot the same round."
At that point I just shook my head and walked off. As I was leaving I passed an old guy in a wheelchair near the rifle section that had to be at least 80 years-old and was visibly upset. He yelled to the lady pushing him, "These guys don't know anything about guns!".
That being said, they did have a nice looking Stevens pump shotgun with a fiber optic front sight and peep rear sight for $200 that I now have my eyes on.
