Hi - I just purchased a Remington 870 Express 26" and love it. Should I use anything special on the wood stock, or just leave it alone? Thanks.

Nothings really needed, but a coat of Johnson's Paste Floor Wax will help keep it nice looking.

You can buy a can of Johnson's at many grocery stores, most hardware stores, many Wal-Marts, etc.

It seems like Murphy's Oil Soap would be good to clean it with. What do you think?

akr, I've always just used a damp rag to get mud and dirt off mine. The metal gets the normal gun cleaning stuff. I don't know what's in the oil soap, so I'm sort of leery on using it.

k96, if your planning on getting wet (duck hunting), I'd take the stock and forearm off and seal the interior portions with polyurathane. For normal use, the paste wax on the wood and metal works wonders for rust prevention.

I,ve used simonize auto paste wax on mine ,it`s47 years old.i bought it in 1960 after my navy service ,still in great shape . IMHO:)

Thanks!

Although this was my first post I've been lurking for some time. I've learned lots and appreciate all your great comments, both here and in the other posts I've read. Be talking to you all again soon.

How about some Tru-oil?

I rubbed it in and then buffed it out with a coffee filter to add sheen about 6 times. A solid seal...and cheap.
