New 686

Does anyone have any experience with the new Smith 586/686? I am considering buying one but would like to hear some first hand experiences regarding fit, finish, accuracy etc.
I understand they have a lock and the old versus new pricing and all that. Just looking for some reports on the new guns.

Thanks
Mike

I recently got a 4" 686, I ran 200 rounds of 38 spl & .357 mag. As expected it's well built & accurate. Going to run another 200 of my reloads on my next rdo.
Btw I can't stand the safety lock.

I bought a new 686+ 4" a few months ago and I like it. No complaints with the fit and finish. I put some Ahrends grips on and it's a nice looking gun.

I have a newer 686+ with the lock on it, it hasn't caused a problem, have a 642 and a 625 with the locks. The guns have other problems but the lock is just there. All three are just as accurate as the older revolvers but don't have the fit and finish of the older revolvers. There are a lot of used revolvers for sale. I just bought a model 15-3, not like new but very nice for 365.00. I have an older 586 that's a real shooter, used it for IDPA with a Kydex holster so it isn't pretty any more but it may be my favorite for shooting.

I have put several thousand rounds of 357 and even more of 38spl in my 4" 686+. Shoots great! Very accurate! Love shooting it. The weight helps soak up recoil from heavy hot loads and the Houge grips feel great to me! Zero problems.....

I have about 25 S&W revolvers...all older models ( 19's, 27's, 28's, 66's, 686's in .357 mag ) .....and I prefer them ...but there is nothing wrong with the newer versions. I've seen the newer versions go thru thousands of rounds in the rental case...at my local range..they hold up just fine.

Funny you mention the 686. My local shop has had a 686 no dash sitting in the display case for the past month. Nice looking gun with tight lockup. I'm surprised it's still there to be honest. I have a feeling that the next time I stop there it might just find a new home ;)

I have a 6" 686+ and it is a fine weapon. I think the fit and finish are just a good as on my older S&Ws, but I only have 6 of those to compare it with. People get their panties twisted over the lock, but it is easy to remove/immobilize.

Thanks for the input guys, I have several old pinned barrel K-frames and enjoy them a great deal. I am looking for a new gun that I can play with some heavier loads with and give the older guns a little milder life. Sounds like the new 686's are just the ticket if you get to inspect before you buy.

Thanks
Mike

Fine weapon

Mike ,I too have a 4" 686 shoot great a tack driver, I like it so much I am planning on getting the 3" model for daily carry.I don't normally recommend a gun to someone but I have no problem saying the 686 is well worth the money and I think you will enjoy shooting it.
