New 65-5 3" and more exciting news...

Just purchased a 65-5 3" from Vance's in Columbus, OH. Very pleased with it and will be taking it out later today to the range.

Also, Vance's has a truckload of police trade-in 681's right now. These are 4" barrel, square butt. Asking price per their promotional flyers was $249. they appeared to be in good condition with a variety of grips.

Check them out if you are in the Columbus area.

Vances

Used to go into Vance's over 15 years ago when I lived in Col. Have not really been back. Used to drool over the stuff in the cases. Passed on some stuff that I wish I had now. Great shop. But the neighborhood looked kinda bad back then. Has it gotten better or worse? Still got stuff with Vances price sticker on them. Hope your Smith shoots good. Sounds like something I would like to have- a full sized rev. with 3". But I would like it in round butt better.

Neighborhood is definitely still somewhat shady looking. The east side of Columbus is not the best of places.

The 3" M65 should be good (it is a round-butt). I gave it a thorough cleaning and am gonna head out as soon as the tree guys finish up in my front yard.

Vance's are good people :) I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them if you live in / around Columbus . I've known them for years .

I carry my model 65 3" every whee any more.
Heads up on a holster...Acker is making me a holster for a K frame 3 " now.
Tom the guy that works there says he used to make and can still do them for the same low price as other holsters in the same catagory.
About 2 to3 weeks for delivery.
I have many Aker holsters and all good quality. If you don't know it, it VERY hard to find a correct holster for a 3" K frame for a reasonable price.
Most people, including me use a 4" holster, and that doesn't do the 3" justice. :)

You bought the best carry/home defense gun you could, IMO. My first handgun I personally bought when I turned 21 was a 3" M65 that I had Karl Sokol of Chestnut Mountain Sports make into a nice carry gun for me before I even fired a shot out of it. Since then, I've owned about 50 handguns, some I still have and some I don't. But, the 3" M65 I have now (not my original, unfortunately) would still be the last to go.

Ted Blocker makes a nice IWB holster that I've used since my original, many years ago. I had a bobbed hammer on my first one, so I special ordered it without a thumb break. The number is M103K.

If there's a handier package for an all-'round CCW/range revolver than a 3" HB/RB K-frame, I haven't found it yet. :)
