Picked up a new S&W 629 Talo with 3" barrel today. First thing I need to do is change those grips! Got some Pachs on order till I figure out what kind of grips I'm going to like on it. For the longest time I swore I wouldn't buy a lock Smith, but it was either that or overpay for a Lew Horton.
I was checking it out more closely at home when I realized the rear sight blade looked odd. It looked unusually high to me. When comparing to a different S&W revolver the sight blade is in fact noticably higher on the Talo. When you touch the blade it moves, wiggles up and down and side to side. I checked a couple of my other Smiths and one rear sight blade was tight, another had very slight movement when touched. I called S&W and while they volunteered to send a shipping label they recommended I shoot it first to see if it is a problem.
I haven't bought a brand new Smith in many years, been sticking to the old ones. But, is this normal for these sights now? Anyone else with a rear sight blade that wiggles around?
