New .444 Marlin

Good to hear.

Plenty of interest from the Marlin guys.

As strange as it sounds to people that know me (being a Marlin guy, and .444 Marlin being my favorite cartridge)...
I think I'll pass.
I already have three working - two of them built by myself and my brother - with a fourth in the half-finished state.

Although... I'd rather chop a new one to 16", to thread it for suppressor use, than one of the rifles already in the safe. ;)

Pass??? PASS??????
What the frickin' frick do you mean pass???????
They're bringing it back just for YOU!!!!!!!
You dunno how hard it was to get that caliber going again!

And you'll PASS!?!?!?!?

Plenty of other people foaming at the mouth, waiting in line, wallet in hand, good sir.

Plus... I've come to the depressing realization that I can't really hunt elk much any more (at least in the usual haunts). ...And that was/is the primary purpose of my 444s.
What I have will still get used; but there isn't much point in adding to the herd.

Hand me a couple hundred thousand dollars, and my tone may change. In that case, I might go for a bushel or three of new 444s.

Should they rename it going to 20 twist, like .244 to 6 mm?
The 1:20" twist is already old news.
Marlin adopted the 1:20" twist and "Ballard" rifling for the Model 444 variants in 1998. It was the Marlin and H&R standard twist rate through the demise of H&R and Remlington's discontinuation of the 444 after the buyout.

I have a friend with a 444 that I cast for. Gas checked 310 grain lee bullet cast from 89/6/5 alloy. As cast they come out at .4305. Pan lubed with 50 percent alox, 40 percent Johnson's paste wax and 10 percent bees wax then shot as cast.

He has shot and anchored many deer, two black bears and several Florida hogs with it.
