"New" 3913. What a deal!

My first semi-auto in a defensive caliber was a S&W 4013. Since then, I've bought others, including Glocks. But I still like that old 4013; it's slim and reliable. When my wife started showing interest in shooting, she took a two day course at InSights using my 4013. She liked it okay, but would have liked something with a tad less recoil. So since then, I've been looking for a good second-hand 3913; one of the pre-agreement, pre-"TSW" jobs. Same pistol as my trusty 4013 but in 9mm.

Well, today I managed to get my hands on one in absolutely mint condition. Even with disassembly, one can hardly tell it has ever been fired! It can't have had more than a couple of magazines through it at most. So, we're off to the range this weekend for some break-in! Ain't that cool? Having to "break in" a second-hand pistol? :D

Congrats! :) The 3913 is a fine pistol. Mine has proven so reliable that my brother borrowed it to shoot during the practical exam for the concealed carry license (where a jam counts as a miss). I've traded away some of my third generation S&W autos, but have never been tempted to trade my 3913.

Great gun!

I bought one for my wife also. It was shooting low and to the left(I shot it, others shot it, I benched it etc.) Just put adjustable sites (metpro sights?) on it and it shoots great! She ended up loving my Beretta more so the 3913 is probably more mine that hers. I love the thin-ness of the frame also.

My dad (a retired LEO) carries a 3914 (same gun but blued), and it's a great gun.

Now that Ohio's probably going to be getting CCW, I'm going to be in the market for a 3913. Legionnaire, may I ask what you paid for yours?

Thanks!

I ran across a NIB 3953...DAO version of the 3913...honestly its a tought choice between it and my K40 for my primary carry piece.
Its never even hiccuped.....one small prob with Silver Bear 147's..but that really wasnt the guns fault. Hope you like your gun...mine impresses me every shooting. Shoot well

Parke1, bought it from a dealer for $325 plus tax. Came with a spare magazine with finger extension. I figure that's a pretty good deal for what amounts to a "new" pistol.

Spent some time last night dry firing it. Seems nice and tight, but would benefit from having the action honed and the DA trigger lightened a tad. I had the same done to the 4013, and it is one smooth piece. A little work and the 3913 should be smooth as silk as well.

Well, decided I couldn't wait until the weekend. Just got back from putting 50 rounds through the 3913. My kids met me at the door with: "Hey Dad! Did you ask Mom if you could shoot her new gun?" :D

Fifty rounds of Magtech 124gr FMCs without a hiccup. Sights seem pretty well on as well, although this was a function test outing rather than an accuracy drill (had to get all 50 down the tube before it got too dark to see). Now to clean her and put her to bed, then schedule a range date with my wife . . .

Tom B said, "IMO the 3913 is the best auto ever produced by S&W".

With all due respect, I will have to disagree with Tom on
this issue. While the 3913 is indeed a fine firearm; IMHO
the 39-2 was Smith's best effort to date. Grant it, we are
talking about an entirely different era; when American
quality really meant something.

My 3913 is my first choice for carry. I have 3 other autos and 4 other revolvers including snubbies. It just feels "right". I keep thinking about baby Glocks, mabey a 36?. Everytime I handle one I return to my 3913 and ask myself "what are you thinking?". I added night sights and Hogue rubber grips. I didn't like the bite of the S&W plastic grips and how can you rely on a carry gun without night sights? Just MHO.

Keep thinking Front Sight, Front Sight, Front Sight.
