New 22LR Ruger Mark II

Picking a new gun has been challenging for me lately, as my collection already covers most of the classics out there. I don't own any 22LR target pistols, so I thought a Ruger Mark II Target in SS w/ a 5.5" bull barrel would be something different. The workmanship is certainly first-class, and hey, I'm helping to get the US economy going again. I might also use it for shooting bottles and cans along isolated stretches of road. What kind of groups can I expect from this gun at 50 yards (with good ammo) and how do you like this model compared to the competition?

Unfortunately, I won't be able to shoot it for a while, as I have another 6-week business trip coming right up, and I can't take my guns with me...

I have noticed that with any Ruger 22LR pistol, if I can see it, I can hit it. You made the right decision with your purchase. Now pick up a few bricks of Remington ammo and some extra magazines! :D

Excellent choice! I've used a Mk II, slightly modified, in bullseye competition for years. With the right ammo and if you do your part, 2" or even smaller groups at 50 yds are not impossible. As with most .22s however, mine is quite ammunition-sensitive. Some of the expensive Eley stuff groups horribly. I get the best accuracy and reliabilty with Fiocchi, but I've seen "possible" scores shot by others using the cheap stuff that comes in the little milk cartons.

I got a MK II 5.5 bull barrel 3 weeks ago

and am very pleased. I've got 250 rounds through it thus far with two hiccups (I've been finishing off some older ammunition that my father had, so I suspect both were ammo related). I particularly like the balance of the bull barrel.

I can only go to 25 yards at my range, but it is a lot more accurate than I am at this point!!

Congrats. The Ruger Mark II is a great gun. Mine is easily more accurate than I am. I've only tried it a 50 yards once using open sites and I had not problem keeping these shots on target.
