ArmySon, if there was a competition on this board to see who had the most neat toys, I have a feeling that you would probably be in the running for first place. :)

Nice 1911s.

The Concept III is pushing $2200 with the extra customizations I had done to it.

The Premier II was a bargain. I bought it from a buddy for $1050 with FOUR Wilson combat mags, Craig Spegel grips, Les Baer grips, Les Baer gun rug, bushing wrench,MMC adjustable combat sights and Les Baer magazine. All that with the gun runs close to $2000.

Son, Now how are we supposed to catch up if you keep buying new toys?!?!? Nice gun Son, course I think ANY 1911 are nice but to see a fine example as the Les Baer is pleasing to the eyes.. drool

Ricky, the Wilson grips are much better then Baer grips that came with it. Until I get some new Spegel grips, they'll have to do.

Son,

I remember your recent post re the number and types of 1911A1s you have. The quality and variety of your collection seems peerless to me. Congratulations.

Sharp, very sharp.

Son,

I want to ask the terrible question (someone's got to). Are these guns REALLY worth the price? Now granted, I understand the desire to own the best. What I'm asking is:

1) Is the fit and finish really above what can be bought for hundreds less?
2) Are there engineering and real world functioning differences that can't be bought for much less?
3) If you shot an $800 gun, would you REALLY be able to tell a difference in performance?

As I said, I understand wanting "the best". I haven't had the chance to shoot a gun of this caliber, and I just wanted to know just how much better these guns could be.

Thanks,
Gino

I wish I had friends like that.

Gino,

It would be easy for me to say yes. Then again there is a no. So, let me break it down further.

If you shoot 1911's a lot, the slightest difference in a crisp trigger, over-all fit and finish, etc will be a world of a difference. What you pay for is not only the name but the fitting of the high beavertail, 30 LPI checkering, match quality barrel, TIGHT slide to frame fit, over-all accuracy and so on.

Les Baers are well known for being the tightest 1911's. There's absolutely no play at all. Once you own a high-end 1911, you never go back to production guns. It's not an ego thing at all. You just end up shooting better and the feel is so much nicer.

As for the no, if you don't shoot a lot. You won't notice the little differences. However, you will notice the differences with the over-all quality. No machining marks, better fitting, tighter slide/frame, better trigger, better barrel, checkering, etc.

So
Questions:
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes

I hope I answered your question.

P.S.
I can fire my Concept III 1000 rounds straight without cleaning and it won't jam.
