New 1911

I found a full size 1911 style pistol today. With an out the door price of $459 I had to jump on it.

Now, I need some , or any info on it. It is a Dan Wesson .45, has nice wooden grips, excellent fit and finish and calls itself the pointman. Any experiences good or bad with this gun? I am thinking of using this gun as a platform for a custom job. Any input is appreciated.

Pointman Major = excellent.

Pointman Minor = so-so.

But I'm sure it's fine for a custom job, as you'll likely replace all the guts eventually. Just have the smith you're using confirm that the frame and slide are worthy of the job.
 
ok mine is the minor I think, but as I said I plan to have it gutted and rebuilt/refinished anyway. I really like the feel of this gun. It has a fantastic balance, and just feels right in the hand.

I am eventually going to have a 1911 custom built from the ground up, fitted to me with only the features I want. Until the time comes that I can part with the cash, the wesson will make a great project gun I think.
