Nevadans, I think we got trouble....

It registers both the person and the firearm. Apparently, in the past, the firearm was not registered.

This looks like on of those sneaky "house-cleaning" bills which is pushed through during the final days of a legislative session. :(

There is no gain in public safety from this change. If a person is certified as a Good Guy, what does it matter what particular handgun is carried?

Bad law.

I think the worst part about it is it gives the county sheriff the authority to decide what kind of firearm a person can carry.

So, if the guy doesn't think civilians should carry anything larger than a .380, he can have all applications to carry a 9mm or .45 or whatever denied. That truly bites.

The only good parts to it are the recipricity (sp?) section and the removal of the "not more than two handguns" part.

I think it could be good IF the sheriff approves all applications. Then, a permit holder could have a whole list of firearms he could carry instead of just two.

Of course, the bad part is they want to keep all the permit holders information in the same database as criminals....I do NOT like that. I went through a stringent background check just to prove I am NOT a criminal, and now they want to group me together with murderers and rapists?

iso1: Since you live in Reno, I suggest you contact Mike Robbins at the Sierra Firearms Academy. He teaches CCW courses for Nevada and is a Washoe County Deputy Sheriff too. I am sure that he can clarify any concerns you have about revisions to Nevada's CCW laws.

Can't tell. It was entered into their database on 5/21/1999.

The fact it's still there tells me it's still active somehow.
