Do the NEF single shots have interchangeable barrels? Can you get one in .223 and a spare barrel for 12ga. and/or 30-30, 30-06, etc.?

Thanks

I did a search for web sites and info but couldn't find anything. Does anyone have souces for info?

Thanks

I have all of the paperwork at home on how to order new barrels. I can assure you that the HandiRifle can take differnt barrels from 12 gauge to 20 gauge to 30-30 to .357 mag to... you get the point. If you buy one there will be a barrel order form in the box with the gun.

.222 remington, .22 hornet, 45-70, .270, .243, .223 remington, 25-06, 38-55 H&R, 44 magnum... There are more that I can't come up with at the moment. But you get the point. it is very versatile and most people I talk to have very accurate guns (sub MOA).

It depends what you mean by interchangeable barrels. These are not T/C Contenders or Encores where you can order different caliber barrels and change them yourself. As the other posts have said there is a wide variety of calibers available but you have to send it back to NEF for them to make the barrel conversion. I have the heavy barrel .223 and am very pleased with it. And it cost me less than if I had converted my Contender.

The NEF Handi-Rifles are currently chambered for the following calibers.

"High Intensity Centerfire Cartridges": .243 Win, .270 Win, .280 Rem, .308 Win, and the old .30-06.

"Low Intensity Centerfire Cartridges": .22 Hornet, .223 Rem, .30-30, .357 Mag, .44 Mag, and .45-70.

Shotgun barrels: .410, 28, 20, 16 and 12ga.

Here's how it works. If you buy a Handi in any of the "High Intensity Centerfire Calibers", you can have it barreled to any low intensity cartridge or .410 to 12ga they offer. The "high intensities" are carefully fit on the SB-2 frame. Fit is extremely important in these calibers!

If you have a Handi in any of the "Low Intensity Calibers" the same is true. However you can NOT get it fit with any of the "high intensity" barrels. The low intensity frames also use the SB-2 frame.

The "Pardner" uses the SB-1. A "pardner" in any gauge can be fit with any of the shotgun barrels up to and including 12ga. 3 1/2" Mag versions.

If you think you'll ever want one in one of the "high intensity" calibers, start there first.

Didnt know a .357mag was available. Looks like the .223, 30-06, and 3 inch slug barrels may get a new brother.

Gopher, I have one of the .357 Mag barrels and am kind of sorry I got it. It does everything a .357 should do from a rifle barrel. But the .357 Mag doesn't shoot flat enough or accurate enough to suit me.

If you have a .357 Mag revolver you want to team it up with, then it would probably be OK because of commonality of ammo.

It is going to be the least used of my Handi barrels.

It's an extremely "beefy" barrel though and will handle any .357 Mag charge you can think up (short of thermo-nuclear)!

I'll bet that '06 makes you :-O with heavy bullets!

PS- I think they may still off the "Euro-Handi" in 7 x 57 and 7 x 64 Breneke. The 7 x 64 Breneke is very similar to the .280 Rem. NEF used to offer rifles in 35 Whelen and .357 Rem Max also!

Yes Sir that 06 will get your attention. The slug barrel needs to be scoped if your gonna hunt with it. The sights are worthless because I cant get down on the stock to see them. It will flat out beat the DO-DO out of you shooting slugs. :D

Other than a .22 I dont have a rifle/pistol combo right now. .357 mag makes more sense to me than a .45/9mm combo. My 686 needs a companion of some kind.

I have a 45/70 handi rifle.
I have shot it with a 405 gr bullet and smokeless powder.
Once.
I combines the long push me across the room recoil with the sharp stabbing pain type recoil.
Don't try this at home.

These rifles can only be re-barreled to the ones that are listed in the paperwork from the factory. Lighter calibers can not be upgraded much higher. Your best bet is to buy a rifle already in a major caliber (12ga, 30-06, etc) and have it rebarreled lower. I found this out the hard way (after buying a .223 and trying to upgrade and after many calls to NEF tech guys.)
