They are good, inexpensive, strong little guns. They are great for loaning out or throwing behind the truck seat. The only problem with them is the recoil. The thing weighs nothing and 1 oz slugs rock my world when I shoot them in it. The 870 is much more fun to shoot, but nothing can compete with the NEF Pardner when looking at the amount of gun for the money.

This was meant to be a reply to deonc in his thread entitled shotgun slugs. How it became a thread of its own i do not know. I must be talented.

Slugs out of the singleshots like this one are not for the testosterone challenged(G). That's why the dedicated 12 ga slug rifle built on this frame has an extra heavy bbl. It's a 10 ga blank, bored 12 ga, so it has thick walls.

Maybe a little lead under the recoil pad and sheet lead under the forearm will help, tho balance might be changed. You do have a recoil pad on that, right?

IMO, the singles work best with less powerful loads, like the field and trap loads.

KilgorII - you ever hunt water fowl with your NEF single 12? If so, how'd it do? I've been duck hunting once (man was that fun!) - I borrowed the same 870 I now own from the friend I bought it from. That was a couple of years ago, but also what helped sell me on the 870.

Nope, I haven't had a chance yet. If I get to go duck hunting I'll take my 870 and use the Pardner as a backup.

There are guys around here with plenty of experience hunting with them though. I'm sure they will chime in. The search feature is now working, you might want to search the vast archives here about them.
