NEF .22 Sportster

Does anybody here have a NEF .22 Sportster? I read an article on it several months ago and am kinda wanting to get one. As you can guess, it is a single shot, break barrel .22 (heavy barrel) with a synthetic stock, built in weaver scope rail and sling swivels. Sounds like a neat little gun. Anyone ever seen one?

NEF Sportster .22LR

I got one a couple of weeks ago. Last night I shot some 0.25 inch groups at 25 yards on an indoor range, and using a Bulls bag. The ammo was American Eagle AE22. The scope on it is a 4-12 X 40 AO Bushnell. I tried a lot of other ammo in it and so far the AE22's are the only ones to give me decent groups. Fiocchi Wasps were the next best. But I am tickled pink that this gun loves bullets that don't cost an arm and a leg. These AE22's I can get for $12.99/brick and I know from past experience they will anchor a squirrel where he stands when hit correctly. My gun is like the one you described except that I would not call it a heavy barrel. The gun overall is nice and light and handles very well, is well balanced, and as long as I can shoot these kind of groups with it, the barrel is heavy enough for me. I have also shot some shorts and CB,s in it. That is an advantage over some other 22lr's. There's no requirement for the round to cycle an action, reset a hammer, or feed through some kind of magazine, since you are doing all that manually. This allows you to shoot any .22 rimfire ammo, except magnums, through it. Check out Yahoo Groups. There is one there called NEF-Single shot that is a talk group specifically for NEF and H&R single shot users.:)

i've got one, had it for half a year or so. Not a bad gun, really bad trigger though, it is a pull and guess when it will go off. It seems to be nickle size accurate at 50 yards, if you could do something with the trigger, perhaps even better. I like mine in the Survivor stock, available from choate. It is not light, especially for a 22. I much prefer my marlin bolt in both accuracy and trigger, but in favor of the nef in the 12 or so thousand rounds i've fired it has never jammed, and it still looks new except for some blueing wear. IF you want a .22 you cannot wear out, then go for it. If you want to punch the smallest groups possable, then i'de pass. I'm sure the gun is match grade accurate, but the trigger is still rough and heavy after so many rounds. My favorite 22 is the marlin 25N. It has about three times as many rounds through it as the NEF, it has never jammed, and also inspired my most recient post on long range rimfires, as it is pop can accurate at 200 yards.

Just FYI

You can send the rifle back to NEF and they will bring the trigger pull down to 3lbs. All you pay is shipping there and back.
