NEF 12 ga.

Anybody know anything about the durability and quality of a New England Firearms 12 ga. It was stamped H & R. The price is cheap, new $188, so I was questioning its quality.

I have a NEF/H&R 12ga single shot, break open shotgun. Great gun, I'm a big fan. Accureate and I haven't had any problems with it at all.

I do not have any info about their new pump designs however.

Have One Too

I have one in the rifled barrel, slug version. I use it to hunt deer in a shotgun only area.

I have had it for several years. It is reasonably accurate and reliable. My only complaint is that its recoil is not exactly fun.

I'm looking at the pump. It looks like an 870 clone. I wonder if it's as good as an 870. The guy at the store said the parts are interchangable.

I played with one of those pumps at a gun show a while back. I didnt get to shoot it or anything, but it was definitely not an exact 870 clone. And something about it just didnt feel "right" to me.

Think that's bad I have a NEF single shot 10 gauge

Yikes, and I thought those 3 1/2 inchers were strong in 12. Aren't they nice and light for when you have to carry them really far though :D .

US makers provide a good variety of durable, well made repeaters that are quite versatile, durable, last longer than most governments and cost less than a weeks pay for most folks.

An 870 has a longer accessory list than Barbie and the modular construction means one can mix or match a shotgun to a mission or just one's whim. The rest of the Big Four pumps have less available, but still there's enough addons and bling to keep us gearheads busy and happy.

Even without the political and ethical considerations of buying stuff from the largest dictatorship left on Earth, it makes sense to buy American....

That's expensive for an NEF. I see them all the time for under 100 clams, used.
Also, those single shot 12's do kick. I have one in 20 that is juuuuust right.

For 188.00, I'd be looking at a used Wingmaster or Express 870.
