NEF 12 Ga, 28", 2-3/4" to 3" chamber, 5-shot Pump $139 at Dicks any good?

Is it a buy or better stay away from it. Did not know NEF also has pump gun. New to shotgun, is 28" the right length. I may just do trap shootings at range. Thanks.

If I remember right, it's a Chinese copy of the Remington 870. Can't tell you much more than that, though.

It's a Chinese clone. For a few more bucks you can pick up a real 870 used that will last longer than we will and has oodles of "stuff" for it.

Buy American....

Mike, darned if I know what breaks on ChiCom Clones, nor will I ever know from personal experience.

But after maybe 60,000 rounds through divers 870s with exactly two parts breaking, I know how long they'll last.

One of mine was made in 1950, given to me in 59 for Xmas. Done everything from trap to 3 gun to investing in venison futures. 10-15K loads without a hitch. Now my house gun.

There's another here, made in 1955. A couple thousand rounds fired since it was purchased two years ago. Glitchless.

A couple more here have up to 15K on them. I figure I'll have to live about 300 years to wear all 6 out. Wish me luck...

The clerk at Dick's told me that he thinks it is made by Norinco. It does have a very nice looking wood and pretty decent metal finish. It has modified choke, what is that? How to decide what barrel length to have. This one have 28".

I did some reading on it and decided to pass myself - gave $156 for a Maverick 88 (made by Mossberg) at Wal-Mart. Seems identical to a Mossberg 500 - seemed like a better buy for just a few bucks more. See if you can find one to handle in your area - side by side I could see no difference between it and a Mossberg 500 except finish.

Hank,

I would stay away from it. I've never heard any good reports on them.

The other suggestions are good - add a little more money and get a Remington 870. You'll be happier in the long run.

Also, if I have a choice, I don't give any money to the Chinese. Communists... aiming nuclear missles at us... killing their own... forced abortions... aggressively hacking into our defense computer systems...

How can you beat the price for the gun? You can't. A lot of gun for the money. The money that Norinco gets for these guns reportedly goes to the Chinese Christian-persecuting government however.

Buy something American. For a few dollars more there are Mossbergs, Remingtons and Winchesters. Forget Chinese and Turkish crap.
