Needing Help With Reloading

I'm sorry to repost this in order to get my thoughts known.

I am reloading: 44 mag, 45 ACP and 45 Auto Rim.

Looking for a load or loads that would be just for plinking.

And a load or loads for home defense.

I have the following powers on hand:
Alliant Unique, Hodgdon Tightgroup, Winchester AutoComp and Winchester 296.

I would appreciate any help that anyone can give me.

Plinking loads

Hey TMitch, I can only say for the 44 Mag. Unique and a 240gr. cast makes a great practice load. check your manual for this one.

W296 is probably best suited for full strength 44 Mag loads. Unique and titegroup will work for light to medium loads in all the rounds. I'm not familiar with autocomp but I imagine it is suited for .45 ACP.

I load 5.0 gr of Unique under a 200 gr SWC in .45 AR for my Smith 25-2. It's a very accurate and pleasantly light load to shoot.

Ditto with Flyfish on 5.0 gr Unique and a 200 gr cast swc for the .45 auto rim in a Smith 25-2. This is a minimum load and can go up to 6.5. With the same powder and bullet the acp would be better off with 6.0 to 7.0 gr.
