You've all heard of the "Hole in the Horn" buck.....we need your help to name this one. Appears another hunters bullet blew a chunk of his antler away and then pierced his ear before we tagged him yesterday. Thinking the bullet went through the antler first then passed through the ear.

Maybe...."pierced ear deer"....."hole in the horn".....any ideas?

The first thing that comes to mind is that he's a shooting gallery buck. ;)

Must have been his day to die!

Fish tale buck. You know the big one got away story the fishermen always tell. I'm sure some other guy is talking about knocking that big one down but couldn't find him.

That sounds like that new "catch and release hunting", did the same thing on an elk a few years ago. Blew his horn right off about 4 inches above the skull, dropped him in his tracks, when i got up to the spot, he had come to and high tailed it. I saw him about an hour later at about 500 yards, missing one horn and about an inch from the top of his ear. I was carrying an old sporterized 7.7 arisaka with iron sights, so he lived for another year.

Be sure to get that cape back on your mount.
I have dumped one over hitting it in the rack, last time I took a head shot, until I got a scope;)I
My father in law lost a nice buck that he swore he must have pierced its ear as the only hair found was fine white. Next season his son brought it home, 10 Pt. 230lb full field dressed. They were not into mounts but that ear hung on the garage wall for many years.

Looks like the "miss" was very fresh. Are you sure you didn't do it on the first shot??:p

As far as a name...how bout "Strike One"?

Kinda hard to reload that fast with a black powder rifle....:D There were some other hunters in the area, we're thinking it might have been them.

My first thought was similar, but that the buck was taken with buckshot - a flyer hitting the ear/antler.

Either way, that deer was hit in the ear and antler very close to the time it was finally downed. There does not appear to be any sign of clotting/scabbing on the ear wound.
