Hey everyone!

I am down in Eagle Pass Texas on business and I went to the local mom and pop gun shop here.

I am in the market for a .357 magnum and they have a S&W Model 66 4" Barrel NIB on sale for $399.00. It is stainless with a black rubber grip.

Is this a good deal?

If I can get a few responses ASAP, and if it IS a good deal, I may go pick it up tomorrow.

I will check the site it the morning to see what everyone thinks!

Thanks in advance!

Agree with Mike
It's an average price. What do you want to do with this gun and it's 6" barrel is another question to ask yourself (or TFL members). Will that barrel length suit your needs? Also, pawn shops usually will negotiate prices if you want to haggle with them a bit. :) If you really want it maybe make an offer 10-15% less and see what their reaction is. Just remember you do not have to buy it from them if you don't want to pay their price. There are other choices out there everywhere. Best of luck. G

new in box

New in the box is the kicker.... is a nice price and you don't have to worry about past use. I doubt if mom and pop will be able to negotiate the price down that much more with a new one.

If you want it, buy it. Price is secondary...and besides that, Mom and Pop need to make a living too.

Check me if I'm wrong, but SW Model 66 comes with original factory wood checkered grips.
If what you're looking at is in fact a NIB M66 $400 is a good price. 'K' frames are now in demand and are selling for well over $400 at the Internet Auctions. I just sold these two for $450.00 & $475.00. Without the original grips that should knock the price down some.

I would agree with every one here BUT

The 6 inch makes it a hangar queen. You can sell 10 4 inch for every 6 inch. But if your looking for somthing with that barrel then I would agree its a good price.

Bullrock,
Very few revolvers come with wood stocks any more. Now if it was an older model that's still NIB it most likely would wear wood, but most factory stocks have been Goodyears for more than 10 years.

Now the barrel length shouldn't be a factor unless you want to carry the revolver for SD. The 6 inchers are better target guns and the longer barrel makes better use of the cartridge.

This is what it looked like

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies.

I decided to wait for the gun show in 2 weeks before I make a decision. I want to take a look at the Rugers and others before I make a final decision.

The owner of the gun shop said he will honor the $399.00 price if I don't find anything I like at the show.

I attached a picture to show what the revolver looked like.

I looked on the net and could not find another one cheaper than $399.00, plus you have to add in FFL and shipping.

If anyone sees a good deal on a nice used or new S&W .357 let me know.
