Need to buy a nice range bag, any suggestions?

I want to buy a nice range bag. I have checked out the Tac Force, the 5.11, the Midway USA, Uncle Mikes, and the Smith and Wesson Performance Center bag that has been selling on Ebay.
What I want in a bag is padding on all four sides and bottom, several individual pockets for mags, 2 padded bags/gun rugs for my handguns, the usual zippered compartments to divide and organize my stuff. I have the usual hearing protection, eyewear, boxes of ammo, targets, paperwork, magazine and books, etc. so I probably need a bag 16-22" in length including the end compartments.
The problem I have is no shops around here have these higher end bags and I have only seen them online and can't get my paws on one. Have any of you owned any of these bags and can tell me about your experience with them.

Bullseye, I have looked at those also and they seem top shelf. I bit pricey but you do get what you pay for. Does the main bag compartment have padding on all 4 sides and the bottom? Thanks.
 
definitely a product that was made just for that special purpose will be nicer/better than a trade off not really designed as a range bag.

While shooting trap competitively for a year, I just used a small duffel bag (1'x1 1/2'x 1' deep) to carry my cleaning supplies, eyes and ears, extra chokes and other various items/accessories. It worked out alright, but I'm sure my items are probably less fragile and expensive than yours. Obviously, you don't need anything fancy to carry around wrenches and chokes, but I see that if you're carrying handguns, you would want a nice padded/ protected bag.

I bought the Midway bag and my son had a similar one marketed by 5.11 that cost twice as much. Side by side, it's almost impossible to tell them appart. In fact, the Midway has heaver hardware for the shoulder strap. I recommend the Midway for the money. Mine is holding up very well after more than a year. I carry lots of ammo to the range. This thing gets loaded down with the center compartment filled with pistol ammo. Nothing has broken, torn or worn in any way. Highly recommended.
 
BBqBOB, I do not know about the bags, I purchase computers and parts for computers from recyclers, there are times when they have metal and plastic cases, large and small that have lost their value, X cents a pound, they also have server cabinets of all sizes mounted on casters, cheap.

On the way home (from some where) I noticed someone filling a dumpster with office equipment, on the chance he needed help I stopped, while helping I notice 4 black cases and a lime color bag, for my effort he gave me all 5 items, one large black case contained a shoulder held Panasonic VCR camera, complete, the smaller cases were slide projectors with trays, the lime case was a cordless drill with two batteries packs, I gave that one back the next day. If the cases had been empty I could have used them as range cases, instead I have my newly acquired camera and slide projectors in them. Last week I noticed 4 metal cases that were long enough for rifles at the recyclers, that provides me with an excuse to drop in this week.

Going to the range is an event, I do not take time to let them cool, I take a lot of them, cuts down on wasted time. I acquired 3 plastic containers like the ones that are drug through airports, telescoping handles with wheels and foam lined, 2 were 3 1/2 cubic ft containers, the other one is 7 1/2 cubic foot, the containers cut down on trips from the parking lot and range, and what I take is not limited because of space. The cases were going to be thrown away, they find value by what is inside, I have a need for what they do not see.

Jimbo, the more I look into it the Midway bag seems like a great deal for the $. How much padding does it have compared to the 5.11 bag your son has?

I would check the NRA catalog. I found the Voodoo tactical bag which holds 2 rifles, 2 pistols, plus ammo and mags. Plus if you get it from the NRA it comes with the embroidered logo and part of the proceeds go to the NRA. Can't really beat that.
 
Well, I received my new range bag today and I am quite impressed with the workmanship, the features, and this sucker is padded everywhere! It is huge (22" long) and seems pretty heavy duty. What range bag did I order? I decided to get the Midway Competition Range Bag. This Bag holds an amazing amount of gear with pockets everywhere to organize my stuff. It had a bag within a bag that pulls out and can hold my ammo and other stuff and it also came with 2 padded and zippered pistol bags and a soft nylon "can" to put my spent shells in. One thing I wanted was several magazine pockets to keep my magazines from clanking around in my bag and there are 8 in the front pocket.

I paid $39.99 plus $15.78 shipping and handling...this is a BARGAIN! The price was the determining factor but when I when I got this bag in my hands I can see it is worth much more. I do not have any of the above mentioned bags to compare it to but at 40-75% less than the competition think I will have no regrets. Hopefully it will hold up and I will try and post in a year or so to let you know how well it lasts.

I have the Uncle Mike's bag; heavy duty, plenty of cush and lots of pockets. I recently lost the shoulder strap and called them to order another. They're sending it NC even after I explained "it's my dime"!

179.00$ TO GET ONE.I WAS PLANNING ON GETTING AN ACTUAL RANGE
BUT THIS ONE IS KIND OF STEALTH IT DOSNT SCREAM GUNS .IT HAS
SKILSAW IN RED LETTERS ON A BLACK BAG.:rolleyes::D
 
Saiga, you are a sneaky man. Members at your range will be expecting you to do some carpentry work at the firing line.
