Need suggestions.....

Hey everyone I am lounging at buying a new 30-06 for deer and elk but I am torn. I own a Browning BLR and love it and wondering if I should go with the X Bolt. Or go with either a winchester model 70, vanguard series 2nd or tikka T3. Anyone suggestions and input would be greatly appreciated

What's your max budget and does that include the price of a good scope? If funds are somewhat limited, I vote for the Tikka and 400 hundred bucks for glass.
Otherwise I'd go for the Winchester if you already have something to top it with.

Shop for guns made in the USA.

I bought a Ruger M77 30-06 Express model last week. Well made rifle and it's very accurate.

Test out a bunch, handle them, see which ones seem to naturally shoulder better than others.

As far as accuracy and quality goes, I have confidence in pretty much anything made these days as far as bolt action rifles go, so go find the perfect rifle for you.

Jimro

I agree with Jimro. I'm partial to bolt-actions and have tremendous respect for Winchester, Weatherby Vanguard S2, Tikka T3, and Brownings. I'd probably look hardest at a Winchester. Vanguards are a bit heavier than I like.

A Winchester 70 is never a mistake.

I know it wasn't on your list, but don't write off (or neglect to look at) the TC Venture. I have two - a .308 and a .300 Win Mag. Both are super guns and both shoot great. They are not in the same class as a Model 70 but they are very good guns and would save you some money for a great scope.

The Tikka's are also a good investment.

get whatever is cheapest and have it rebarelled with cut rifled match grade barrel.
if not I would buy a savage 116 with a stainless barrel

Nothing wrong with the BLR but if in the market for a bolt rifle you've listed some good ones. IMHO Winchester leads your list, really nice rifles, at least the ones I've handled are. The X-Bolt, Tikka, and S2 are nice rifles too, and they come a little cheaper which leaves you more money for good optics. I like what Jimro had to say though, none of them may be the gun for you and you're not going to know that until you handle them and pick your favorite.

In the past few months I have bought a tikka lite 223 that is very accurate and a weatherby vanguard s2 in 243. If I had to choose between the 2 I would have a very hard time, they are both joys to shoot. The Tikka stock is in the process of getting changed out for a boyds thumbhole but I dont think I would change the weatherby's, stock, its very sturdy and fits me well.

There are lots of good bolt rifles. Once you get used to one you'll forget about the BLR. I'm partial to Winchesters with Ruger's a close 2nd place finisher as an all around rifle If within your budget, and you want something really light the Kimbers are nice too.

I don't guess there is anything wrong with the X-bolt. I just don't like them. Same with Remington. The Vanguards are good guns, just a LOT heavier than I like. The Tikka's are great guns, very accurate and the lightest gun you'll buy under $1,000. If you like the unconventional looks they are a good choice. I'm not a big fan of Savage either, but they do shoot well.

If you love it, why change?

Ask yourself, what do I like about the BLR, and what do I not like? Then go from there. Personally, the only thing I wouldn't like is the detachable mag, which is why I wouldn't switch to the X-bolt.

What's the chambering of the BLR?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. But if you do, the Win 70 is head and shoulders above your other options - though the X-Bolt is no slouch (again, provided you like having something to lose - that magazine).
