Need suggestions

Ok folks, I am kinda stumped, and would like suggestions. I am looking at getting a used revolver, and have 2 that could be great pieces.

The first is a S&W model 36 3" barrel chambered in .38 special- according to the seller it has a low sell count and Pacmyer grips- he got it in a trade because the guy didn't have enough cash for a rifle. Still trying to figure out the age, and watching the posts like a hawk for that. The seller wants $325.

The other is a Ruger Security Six .357 with what looks like a 4" barrel. I will skip the summaries and give a link to the site where I found it. The guy wants $375.

My question is- which would be better for the money? Which is going to have a better resale value? I like the added versatility of the Ruger, but I know S&W makes a great revolver, and, if I got the .357, would prob shoot 90% .38spec anyways. Plus, the longer barrel makes CC a little tougher. What do you think?

What are you using the gun for? If you plan to carry it, the model 36 would be better. The Ruger will be more enjoyable for range work and general plinking. Either should be well made and last for many years, just make sure to check timing and lock-up if you can.

Best bet is to buy them both. I LOVE the 36 with the 3 inch barrel, but never have the money when I find a decent one. The Ruger will be close to indestructible, and the added power of the longer round makes it suitable for a carry type hunter.

This piece was intended to be more of a nightstand/home weapon, but for the time being may also be a glove box weapon- I work in a hospital, so my gun would be spending most of its time there- as well as for the range. I plan on, in the near future, buying a semi-auto 9mm compact as a CC weapon, and then the revolver would be a home weapon.

It also turns out the Model 36 is not a 36, but, based on the serial number, a pre-1955 "Chief's Special" that became the model 36. It may end up being a collection gun rather than a regular carry gun. More on that as it happens...

That's a really good price on a Model 36 with a 3" barrel.

I'd expect closer to $500 here in Northern Virginia.

Just saw your update on the Model 36...

If you do not buy that gun, please PM me the information regarding the seller. I'd like to see if I could work out a deal.
