Just bought a SAFN-49 that had an astonishingly good stock – amazing condition for a 50+ year-old military surplus rifle. UPS turned the gorgeous stock into firewood. Looks like they supported either end of the shipping box on blocks and then dropped a refrigerator on the unsupported midsection. The metal magazine surround is slightly bent as well.
I have already started looking on-line for a replacement stock:
· Numrich lists “new” ($86.00) and “original” ($68.20); both “currently sold out”.
· SARCO lists “reworkable” ($75.00) and “reworked in our shop”($125).
· Northridge lists used ($75.00) with picture of stock with big stencils on butt.
· Springfield Sporters lists none.
Does anyone know of other possible sources? I would appreciate any help you can provide. (I’m posting this on several forums, so you may see it more than once.)
