Need Steyr M9 info - please help

I have 3 glocks. Models: 21, 17 & 26. I love them all, but was in the mood to try something different. I just ordered a Steyr M9 from CDNN Investments Inc. This is probably an excellent gun however I cannot find any magazines for this gun, and it only comes with one 10 round. I think the gun is being discontinued. Or possibly the distributor is just going out of business. Am I making a mistake getting the M9? No matter how good the gun is, it would be worthless to me if I cannot get extra magazines. And I don't even know if I will be able to get warranty work on it. My other choices would have been a Ruger P95 or a CZ in a compact version. Should I have went with one of these instead? Anyone know where I can get magazines for the M9? All information greatly appreciated.

Steyr changed distributors in January. You may still be able to get accessories from the old distributor, GSI Firearms(www.gsifirearms.com). Supply is kinda tight now, but will increase once the new distributor picks up the slack.

As to larger than 10rnd mags, only LEOs can get the 14rnd mags. However, there is a way to modify S&W Sigma 9 mags(17rnd) to work in the Steyr. As far as I know the modification is legal.

Once you take it to the range you will not regret your purchase. I don't know who the new distributor is, but Steyr has a new website up and is retooling after being sold.

The M9 is my favorite pistol, easy to shoot, very comfortable in my hand and well designed. Try the gsi recommendation, and CDNN used to sell extra magazines as well but I'm assuming they don't have any more. Otherwise, wait awhile and they'll show up.

Do not know about the Sigma mod.

m40

I have a M40, while looking for a 3rd mag so I can start shooting some IDPA, I saw the 40 cal mags on CDNN's web page. Their prices on the remaining M series they bought up are great, especially if the trigger mod is complete.
I just got mine back about a month ago, I am shooting groups half the size of those shot with a P99 or USP compact in .40 and marginally better than a full size glock 9mm. I have only taken it to the range twice since the trigger upgrade, but I know my 2 hand unsupported standing shots are considerably more consistent.
Reliability: I have only had problems with S+B ammo. All other brands (approx 6-7 types) fromUMC, Wolf, Win, Magtech, Speer, reloads, and a couple I can't remember have all chambered and fired with 100% reliability!

Mags may be difficult to find for a little while ('til Steyr gets their distribution back in line).

I'd like to hear from people who have done the S&W Sigma mod becaue you can pick up 10 round Sigma mags for almost nothing (I've heard tale of used but excellent condition ones for $5 ea at gun shows) and since you can't load hi-caps for IDPA they should be fine (that and the hi-cap sigma mags are going for $70-$80). If they are reliable I may pick up a box of post bans just 'cause you can never have too many magazines :)

I bought my 3rd mag from GSI right before they where dropped by Steyr (actualy the PO on my M40 had the trigger job done and hadn't traded in the $35 gift certificate so I traded it for a mag). At the time GSI was selling them for about $35-$40.

I had nothing but problems with my M9.The first 200 rounds were ok, but the next time I took it out it started double tapping, then shooting bursts. I took it apart and every thing looked fine. But it kept shooting F/A. I sent it back to GSI and they polished the firing pin channel and replaced the trigger group. But after realizing the gun was single action, had no firing-pin saftey(the trigger doesn't have to be pulled to fire) and was as dangerous as a cocked and UN-locked 1911 with a pinned grip saftey, off it went.:barf: :barf: :barf: :barf:

I have three xtra M9 (used) magazines in excellent condition that I would sell at $30 apiece shipping included.
I also have a Sigma pre ban hi cap that has been converted to work in the Steyr M9. I would sell that for $75 shipping included. E mail me at dastein@nycap.rr.com. I can take paypal.
