I am almost ready to open our store and am in the process of putting together our first order.. What I need to know is what do you guys and gals use for hunting? Whats your favorite brand, gauge, shot size for squirrel, rabbit etc. The for turkey what do you like.. Any help woudl be great..
Ill also put on up for big game as well..

My 12 gauge choices...

Turkey- Remington Premier High-Velocity Magnum #5 shot 3" magnum

Small Game-Remington Game Loads #7 1/2 shot 2 3/4"

Slugs- Lightfield Hybred Express Sabot 2 3/4"

I'm a 12 guage guy...
Turkey - I like the 3" mag Winchester #4's or #5's.
Upland birds - Winchester's #6 Super Pheasant or Federal's #6 Pheasant load
I shoot a ton of Estate #8 for trap / skeet.
I don't ever shoot slugs, but I do shoot quite a bit of 00 buck (Winchester Super x) for home defense / practice.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

I like Brenneke KO slugs

I like Remington and Winchester in 3.5" 00 buck

I like Winchester in 3" 00 buck

I like Remington Reduced Recoil 2.75" 00 buck for social engagements.

I shoot 12 ga 2-3/4" Winchester or Federal shells for birds.

I also shoot 20 ga 2-3/4" shells for birds if I don't feel like hauling around the extra weight.

Handgun is strictly handloads, but if I had to choose I would say Winchester.

I shoot handloads in my rifle, but if I had to choose, Federal or Winchester.

I shoot Federal American Eagle in my 22.

I shoot Federal Champion 22LR in my accurate 22.

You might want to look on your shotgun - it says the max size...

Lol... You might want to read the thread before you reply..

:D

I preffer the federal line for hunting. But have been know to buy whatever is available. usually 2 3/4" 12 guage for almost everything. Good luck on your store!

Shot: usually winchester brand but I have used federal for waterfoul
Slugs: Winchester Supreme Partition Gold for 20 ga and Winchester Supreme Platinum Tip in 12 ga

Whatever patterns best is the brand/type to use.

It just so happens that for my Model 12 FC, only the Winchester high-brass shoulder-thumpers 7-1/2s work well. In my Beretta 390, most anything seems to pattern okay.

Hmmmmm. My shotty only takes 2 3/4s so: Fed R127FS slugs, WW slugs in the 15 pack, RP 1 1/4 oz Sp field loads with #5,6 and 7 1/2 shot, AA and Fed GM trap loads 1 1/8 oz 1250 and 1300 fps., Brenneke slugs (KO), RP and Fed 30/06 150 to 180 gr. and any other common hunting ammo. Stock a good variety of bullets, primers, and powders, wads and munchies, cleaning supplies and sell licenses. Have an old soda cooler set up to sell live bait 24 hrs., and have a list outside of necessary emergency #s including the local game warden. List the better places to eat, sleep, and some guides. My $0.02. CB.

I like Federal shotshells. Other than for waterfowl, we don't have any upland birds or small game that needs the whack of magnum loads like turkey hunters do.

For ducks heavy steel works fine. Geese OTOH need something like Hevi-Shot.

For grouse and ptarmigan I just use Federal general purpose loads or Remington game loads.

For people eaters I like Federal Tactical or Low Recoil 00Buck and when something absolutely, positively has to be whacked hard, the Brenneke Original slug is my choice.

Winchester would be my second choice if Federal wasn't available.

Call me a tight-wad: I purchase the cheapest ammo that meets my needs.

20 Ga, cheapest to just function test gun, #3 for standby duty,
12 Ga, again cheap stuff to just shoot, #1 for relaxing around the house.
both in 2 3/4 inch /bigger stuff kicks too much.

Good luck in business.

Fiocchi #8 mostly for dove, Federal #4 for duck, Remington #4 or #5 for turkey. I may eventually get another 3 1/2" gun, but it will be an autoloader--I got my shoulder beat to hell this year using a Mossberg 835. Shot a Benelli pump yesterday: great recoil absorbtion but points extremely poorly compared to my Remington 1100 and Belgian Brownings. To be fair, so does nearly everything else.
