Need some good bluejeans

Folks,

The word on the street is that Levi Struss (my favorite bluejeans in the world) has come out as being anti-gun.

Sigh.

Well, this means that I'm going to have to purchase some different bluejeans. Having never bought anything other than Levi's, I'm going to need some advice on what's good.

Something that would make a good "work jeans" and hold up an "inside the waistband" holster. I was thinking about Lee jeans. How about Arizona Jeans (Sears, I think)? I'm considering an ankle holster, so do either have a boot cut? Should I hit the western wear stores?

Thanks in advance.

Check out Wrangler jeans. I've been wearing them for years and they are IMHO better than Levis ever dreamed of.

You can find them at just ablut every western shop but sometimes they are rather expensive. Go to your nearest Farm store (TSC and Country General both carry them) You should find the exact same ones there only much cheaper.

Carharts are very tough. Lots of room for my husband's muscular thighs :), straight cut so maybe boots would work with them. Certainly work boots fit.

I second the Carharts. They are alot tougher than Levis and Wranglers. By my estimation they last about five, yes five times longer than Levis.

Where can one find Carharts?

Cahartt (note there are two -2- t's) has their own stores in many areas and their clothing is sold at stores that sell to construction workers. I don't know if they have a web site or not.

I have worn some "Working Gear" jeans but the material seemed thinner than my Wranglers and Lees. Their pantlegs are tapered so they will fit inside the boot top so they would not work so pretty good with an ankle holster.

I just did a web search and found http://www.clothingcarnival.com states they handle Cahartt.

Also http://www.idspecialties.com handles the line "If Cahartt makes it, we can get it."

Wranglers. The Pro Rodeo Wranglers are tough. Lately as an old fogey I have been getting the Wrangler American Hero or American Classic..something like that. For carharts checl out Cabellas.

If you're looking to go the cheap route, I've been very happy with Price Club/Costco. Their Kirkland brand has outlasted my Levi's and were only $12.

Maxim magazine just did a review of jeans in which they used different pairs as a tow chain, ran a cheese grater across the knees, ran them in the dryer on HIGH for several hours and measured for shrinkage, and a few other things. They actually found GAP brand jeans to be pretty darned good, and they look good, too. They run about $30. I bought some, and was glad they actually had 36" inseams available.

I'm pretty happy. Now just don't ask me what the heck I was doing reading Maxim. :)

I buy Wranglers...come in various cuts (relaxed, regular, cowboy, etc). Everyone I know, farmers and real cowboys, wear them...and cost less than half the price of Levis ($35 for one pair of Levis 501; $13-16 for a pair of Wranglers)

Try Edddie Bauer jeans and you won't be disappointed--I too need those 36 lengths and they are readily available--about 28-30 bucks, quality is superb, and they are guaranteed. Basically, if you decide you don't like 'em anymore you can return 'em.

Almost everything in my closet is E.B., even if that makes me sound like a shill....

Folks,

I just thought of something else.

Which of the above suggested companies are "gun friendly". If I remember correctly, the Gap is part of the Levi's company (I may be wrong). I would hope Wrangler, being the rodeo bluejean, would be pro gun. Does anyone know about the others? Or has it gotten to the point that not giving my money to companies who oppose my viewpoint will eventually leave me rich, because I can't spend my money anywhere?

Aside from that, thanks for your help. I'll go shopping this weekend.

Levi's are gun UN-Friendly, and other than that, I don't know. Frankly, if they aren't actively ADVERTISING how they're gun-unfriendly, I'm not looking, right now. But if GAP is owned by Levi's, it's news to me! Certainly the cut is very different.

BTW, y'all will be glad to know that the informative scientific journal that is Maxim (swimsuit edition, BTW) reported Levi's to be the lowest-quality cut; they fell BELOW Calvin Klein's in strength and durability, believe it or not.

I've always had a problem with those dadgum plastic label tags on the Wranglers. Silly of me.... :)

Which has more room in the thigh area, the Carhart or Gap jeans?

You say Cabella's has the former - they are online, no?

I'm with weebee on the Eddie Bauer jeans. Not to mention they are cut for us... err... full figured gentlemen like myself.

bkm...

For those of you interested, the Eddie Bauer company is no longer the campany it used to be , designing and making products for outdoorsmen. several years ago, they were bought out, taken over, whatever, by Spiegal, (my s.o. gets catalogs from both) and both companies are definitely anti-fur, pro-animal-rights, ( I'm surprised that they carry any leather products at all) so it is not to hard to guess what fills in the blank on the next "anti-____". I am not positive on their gun stance, but the first 2 are enough for me to not buy any of their overpriced merchandise.
Wrangler is definitely on our side. Makes a wide variety of styles as mentioned before. They even make jeans in different camo patterns for hunters.
As far as wear-resistance goes, many of the cheap brands of work jeans will far outlast Levis because they haven't had 1/2 the life stonewashed out of them.
I haven't bought any Levis for years, just because they got too darn expensive, but I still have one pair, 32x34 big bells with the hem ripped out to fringe that I last wore about 25 years ago. :) they still fit, but they are a little snug :)

Just thought that since we are not buying Levi's maybe we should support good union workers also. It seems wear guard cafeteria employees tried to organize a union. In response to this wear guard decided they didn't need a cafeteria. My local as well as others are not buying from wear guard anymore. Which is a shame because they sell some great stuff fore linemen & women ;)
