Hello everyone
I need some case prep gear, to trim 223 cases and remove the crimp from the primer pocket
What is a good but inexpenisive options?
Thx

How many are you planning to do in a session?
Hand or power trimmer?
Cut or swage the primer crimp?
Hand or power chamfer and deburr?

After I did 250 in one session by hand, I opened up my wallet.
But there are quite a few options.

Mmm maybe 200-300 at a time
I know jack about case triming so...yeah I'm not sure
Id like to keep thing hand powered though

right on target!:D Open the wallet and get a primer pocket swager and don't look back. 223 I can't imagine that it would be less then 500 rounds LOL. Remember you'll have it a LONG time.:)

Primer pocket uniform and deber?

are these round for plinking or something else? If for plinking here is where you should save your money. For precision rifle spend the money.

I found that by the time I checked case length, then trimmed, it was easier just to put them in the trimmer, if they needed to be trimmed, I would, if not I would not, it saved a step and brass handling.

From sizing, trimming, chamfering, deburring, brushing neck, cutting primer crimp, and brushing primer pocket, I'm only handling the brass twice, once in the press, and once out, my hand does not leave the brass until all other steps are done. I can live with about 20 seconds or so per case to have them all done the same way For precision rifle rounds.

Note that the primer pocket uniforming tool by Redding is for optimizing primer depth, not for removing crimps, but you still might want that if using an AR type .223. A primer pocket swager is needed for removing the crimps. However I think that some just use an electric drill and appropriate size drill bit to cut away the crimp and apply a slight bevel. I use the drill bit method for the large crimped primer pockets and it works very well.

I use the RCBS primer pocket swagger and the possum hollow case trimmer with the power adapter for my cordless drill.
About 40.00 for the trimmer and 35.00 for the swagger.

Here are two solutions that are down right cheap and effective. I own both;

1. https://fsreloading.com/catalogs/lee-precision/lee-quick-trim.html

Lee makes a manual case trimmer that fits in your press. Review the entire web-page because you need not only the Deluxe Trimmer but the 223 die.

2. http://www.amazon.com/Lyman-Reloadi...457959943&sr=8-1&keywords=lyman+pocket+reamer

The Lyman Reloading Primer Pocket Reamer (Small) is very efficient, when you use it with an electric drill. The reamer is screwed into a plastic handle. Unscrew the reamer and place it in to your drill chuck. You need less than 5 seconds to clear out the pocket with this method.

Good luck. Happy shopping.
