Need some data for debate against "gun control"

I take night classes, (decided at 36 to get a degree in the field I have been excelling at for 20+ years).... :cool:
Anyway, in my "social Problems" class, we had to pick a topic to debate on. the teacher is extremely liberal, as are the 18-19 year old kids in the class. I chose to argue against "gun control"
Help direct me to data, (online, or book form). to use to have HARD data as I do this... (like official websites, and such.) Not just numbers that you may know, or your opinions about it, though I welcome that too...

John Lott's "More Guns, Less Crime" is a good book. Then enter this into an Amazon search and see related items.
 
You might want to search for crime statistics for states that have implemented "Must Issue" concealed carry laws. Gun control advocates claimed these laws would revive the Wild West. Various stats that I have seen, have shown a small drop in gun related violence. While it's debateable whether the CC laws have led to the drop, it's clear that they didn't cause the chaos the opposition predicted.
 
On each page at TFL you'll find a link marked "Library" at the top of page. Click on it. You'll find so much info your head'll spin. Look at "Guncite" first, let your mouse and eyes take you wherever you want to go from those first few steps. The knowledge therein should help you immensely. Or at least, get you started.

Gun Control Laws in America... did it not begin as a racial issue? OR perhaps (going back a bit further) as a form of Gov't control via the King's Men on the Colonists in Boston (notably One if by Land, Two if by Sea?). Just mentioned those two in passing as someplace to start, that's all.

not too sure where you are going with the last few posts, but thanks to every one else who helped. I am no debate team guy... I had to pick from 20 liberal hot-button topics in this silly (mandatory) college class. I thought I'd choose one near and dear to my heart. As you can read in my first post, I am returning to college as a successful adult, just to obtain a degree... So, if you want to argue about if statistics mean anything, I don't think that's going to help me. I need some hard data so I don't sound like a buffoon. (I have never debated anything other than with my wife for more gun money...)

Remember, the focus of the debates should relate to how the topic fits within the social problems category. If you have not selected a debate topic and plan to continue with this course, please contact me immediately.
The plan is for all debates to be held the same evening. Typically you will have 3 minutes for your argument, 1 minute for your rebuttal and 2 minutes for audience questions. Evaluations will be based in large part on presentation, research documentation, and audience reaction. Feel free to prepare handouts, Power Points, video clips, etc. to enhance your presentation. The debates will be educational, entertaining, and enjoyable!

 
How about citizens defending themselves during the LA Riots and Hurricane Katrina when the police couldnt. Made the Secomnd Amendment pretty relevant in modern times.
 
How about the story of George Clooney going to the UN begging for many soldiers with guns to go to Darfur and clean up the mess that was caused by banning poor black people from having guns so Arabs with guns could commit genocide?
