I started shooting just for a hobby here lately. have a rem 308 tac rifle. I was looking at a new scope for it. dont have much to spend. my debate is either a wotac, falcon, or shotmetal brand wanting variable scope. All 3 look like they have fine warrantys and cs. does anyone have any expierence with these and can tell me what they think of them. thanks in advance.

I don't have any experience with the scopes you mentioned. However, I recently bought a couple of scopes that were very affordable, and were WAY better than I ever dreamed of for the price. The first was a Federal Intensity 3X-10X-X44mm. The clarity of this scope is unbelievable. It also features a fast focus. It is manufactured in the Phillipines (not China!), which is a huge plus in optics. It is manufactured by Weaver. It retails for over $200. I purchased mine (I actually ordered a second one) from Sportmans Guide for $49.99. Another great value SG has is a Pentax Gameseeker scope in a 4X-12X- 40mm for 69.99. It features multiple crosshairs in a bullet drop compensating system. It too retailed for around $200. I prefer the crosshairs on the Federal scope, just that they aren't quite as fine as the Pentax crosshairs. Both scopes are very bright, but the bullet drop feature on the Pentax may be perfect for long range plinking. Hope this helped.

Bushnell fixed 10x

The bushnell 3200 fixed 10x is getting some good press.

Mildot crosshair, target turrets, good optics. It retails most places for about $200 bucks.

It would be a good entry level tac scope for your Rem me thinks.

Any of the SWFA Super Sniper scopes seem like a much better way to go. I've looked into Falcon scopes and read some bad reviews of people having issues with them. Check out over on snipershide.com for some good info on scopes like this.

Scopes

I have 3 of the WOTACs and love them. They have a full 80 MOA of elevation and 30 MOAs per direction giving you a total of 60. I have used these scope to adjust out to a 1000 yds. and then back to zero with all of them and they where all right on. Matt at Wonder Optics is good people he stands behind what he sells. As my older scope die they will be replaced with the WOTAC for me they are a great product for the price that you can't beat. My old eyes can't tell the difference when looking through a high dollar scope and one of Matt's so get the WOTAC and tell Matt, Kurt from Maricopa Shooting said Hi.

As far as relatively inexpensive, but quality riflescopes go, think along the lines of Bushnell, Burriss, Redfield, Nikon Prostaff, etc... I would stick with a more popular company such as these for a good quality entry-level scope.

Edit/update: I just bought and mounted a Redfield Revolution 4-12x40mm for my Browning BAR MkII (.30/06) and I have to say I am amazed with the quality and clarity of this scope. I have not made it to the range yet, but I'll post a full review and report once I've sighted it in and shot a bit.
