I wasn't sure where to post this for optimum exposure but maybe the moderators can help.
I recently purchased a 1897 Winchester shotgun that I plan to make a minor project out of. The finish on the metal is in good condition and the forearm wood is original but has been refinished. I plan to refinish the forearm and leave the metal finish alone.
The butt stock is another story, it is not original and doesn't fit real well. I would like to replace it with an original stock or a good quality modern replacement. I plan to use the gun for plinking with friends, It will not get a lot of use. The serial number is 440XXX and I am told it was made in 1909.
I would appreciate any suggestions on replacing the butt stock. Thanks.
