I have a slightly used Sigpro 2009 with night sights that a guy has offered to trade a nib Steyr m40 or springfield XD for.
Any thoughts on these pistols would be apreciated. It will mainly be used for target shooting and a defense pistol for the trauck. Thanks

I love my Steyr M40 and would recommend one to anyone who asks :)

As for Steyr "having a rough time keeping their doors open" I think that's a mischaracterization of Steyr's position. They will be back in the US soon I'm sure (they recently sold and BMW sold the land out from under one of their factories). Steyr says they plan on sticking around (and re-entering the US market).

Even assuming the worse, the Steyr is an excellent weapon and you should have no problem finding parts or qualified people to work on it.

As for the SigPro ... the SigPro line is the only Sigs I've ever heard anyone complain about, but I don't remember what the complaints where.

And that Springfield is a new pistol ... have they worked the bugs out of it yet?

At 15 yards I generaly maintain 3-4 inch groups. At 25 yards I get 7-8 inch groups ... uh...not counting "flyers" :p but I believe the gun is much more accurate then I am (although I've not fired if from a bench rest to verify this).

At 15 feet I can make one big hole about an inch and a half across :)

I think no matter what gun you have, you have to LEARN how to shoot it. I have a 2009 that would only do so-so when I bought it, but the trigger was crisp and smooth.
After a few monthsof shooting every weekend, I was making one hole groups at 30 feet. Maybe not great for some, but very good for me.
I don't think it was as much the gun being broken in as it was me learning how tight to hold, gaining sight picture, and so on.
I did a lot of dry firing with a coin balanced on the slide.
All the guns mentioned are good, but I wouldn't trade a Sig for any of them.
