Need opinions on Winchester 1300

In what seems like my never ending search for the right shot gun Ive run across what sounds like a good deal to me.
Walmart has Winchester 1300 12 gauges for $226.
Ive almost ruled out the 870 because I dont care for the expresses and the Wingmasters are to expensive.
Im still considering the Moss 500 but Id like to hear some comments on the Win 1300s before I make a decision.

Thanks

I've had all three. I had a Mossy 500 w ghost rings for HD. Sold it and made a killing during the Y2k era. Had an 870 with a 3.5" chamber that patterned poorly with many 2 3/4 loads and sold it. Currently have a Beretta 390 for sport and a 1300 Defender for HD. The 1300 is stock with the exception of a side saddle and a fiber optic bead.

Pro's of Mossy: ergonomics--best safety location IMO

Pro's of 870: Toughness, proven design, more accessories available than Joan Rivers can sell

Pros of 1300: s m o o o o o th and fast action.

Never had a problem with any of the three--the 870 patterns were likely due to the unnecessarily large chamber.

The 1200s didn't hold up well under typical prison use, but worked fine when clean and oiled. The 1300s I've shot belonged to students and did everything I wanted them to.

It's not an 870, but it's a good, serviceable shotgun suited to "Serious" work or sport.

I have shot all 3, and don't have a real strong preference. I think Harry has accurately laid out the advantages of each.

My 870 makes nice patterns, but it has a 3" chamber.

I really do like the 1300. At that price, its a good deal. I would do it if I were you.

Another option?

Gander Mountain had a Russian Baikal M133 pump which can shoot 2 3/4 -3 1/2" on sale for $179. It should be worth a look for that money. The m153 semi-auto was $359. Check out the European American Armory.

I just got back from South Dakota and shot a 1200 that my dad gave me in 1964. It still works fine and we make a pretty good team.

I absolutly love my 1300. It is so slick, there is no comparison to the other pumps I've used. I like the other pumps, but this is on a higher level of refinement. Its as if Sig made the 1300.
