Gents,
New and clueless here! I'd like your opinion's: strictly from an investment standpoint, would you buy an 1895 M in .450 Marlin to stick in the safe for a bunch of years? I can get a really clean one (sighted in for a hunt that never happened) for $400 with 150 rounds. Am I correct they're not made any more? Should I expect it to appreciate significantly?

Thanks,
Have money, will buy guns

Why would you buy such a gun and never hunt with it? Unbelievable.

At $400, you'd be getting a good deal. But to pen up such a creature is a sin.

Invest your money in the bank. Buy the rifle if you want to use it. I don't see the 450 Marlin being anythng special in the future.

That is an exceptional value, it might not have much collector value so go ahead and use it. The value will not be diminished by shooting it. Also, I know they plan on retiring production of the M95 450, but I believe it is still available for this model year.

If factory 450 Marlin ammo goes out of production as well your rifle will be worth much less. There are much better investments. If you're buying it for a shooter it's a great deal.

I was interested in a 450 marlin until I found out the only place to buy brass was from Hornady. It was super expensive compared to 45-70 brass.

The gun is a good deal. Check brass prices and see what 500 pieces will cost. It won't be long and you won't be able to buy it any more. There is no way I know of to form the brass. A gun without brass is a club. A worthless club.

Like the others have said buy it to shoot. If you are afraid or too strapped for cash to shoot it then pass on the deal. Thats my best advice. If this were the only gun in this bore size then it would be a fair investment. There are just too many 45-70s for this to be a good long term investment.
