Need new gun advice from forum.

Here I go again! I know I promised not to buy another rifle this year, but I found myself with about $600 burning in my wallet. I own a 22-250, .243, (2) 7 mags., a 270, 06, 350 Rem Mag., a coupla 30-30's and maybe a few other calibers. What should I spend my hard-earned cash on? I like bolt actions with wood stocks preferably made by Winchester, Browning, old Remmies, Rugers, etc. I can buy a good Leupold scope later. Any comments would be appreciated as we chew the fat about rifles.

Buy something like this and then save your pennies to have it made into your dream rifle.

too late! can't let gun money languish in my wallet. Bought for $485 a Remington BDL(?) .270 with a Drop magazine. Does anyone know if this is a true BDL or is it a Cdl? SN#D6249XXX

Dude, I thnk you bought a lh .270 mountain rifle! If you got that for $485 you did very well. Barrel should be a lighter contour than the standaed BDL to make a lighter weight over all. I don't know much about the mountain rifles except the used a detachable magazine like the one pictured.

It's a BDL style glossy walnut stock with the black cap on the forearm, but BDL's are usually hinged floorplate, not detachable mag like your rifle. I'm with Taylorce1 it looks like a LH mountain rifle or some similar model. Nice rifle. There should be two letters on the left side of the barrel just in front of the action that will tell you the year and month of manufacture. You may or may not have to pull the stock off to see the letters. Once you find that out, you can figure out what model fitting the description of your rifle was being manufactured at that time.

Yes, I know what it is, now. The last poster is correct. My only remaining questions about my impetuous purchase is Did I pay too much @$485 OTD? and is the detachable magazine a plus or a minus. The 1st gun I ever bought was a BDL 30.06 LH from Gart Bros. in Denver in 1977 for $209. This gun brought back good memories. I know today's guns are laser accurate and handy, but I miss wood and blued steel.

No you didn't pay too much, the new ADL's at Walmart go for $419 around here and the SPS goes a bit over $500. To get any Remington rifle in a LH configuration figure at least another $100 over cost of similar RH model. I'd say the action alone is worth $400 to build on.

Right to Bear,

Sounds to me like a guy as well armed as you ought to put his extra money toward a cool hunt somewhere instead of even more hardware.

Just saying
