Need New Grips for Makarov

I would like some better grips for my East German Mak. Prefer wood but would consider rubber or other synthetic. Would like a better thumb rest. I guess what I want is something to make it feel like my Browning HP. Any one found a good source? Also how about a source for nite sites?

Sid, Checkout http://makarov.com/ Karl, the owner, carries wood and other types of grips also holsters, spare parts, etc. Depending on what you have in mind for your Mak, the original grips may be better for CC while Pierce grips make range time more pleasurable. Look over the site and go to the discussionboard for others experience regarding night sights for the Mak. Good luck.

I have both the Pearce grips and the Makawrap. Pearce is more comfortable, but the Makawrap is much thinner (about the same dimensions as the factory originals, but more comfortable because of the rubber and the finger groove). If you're going to use the gun for concealed carry, I think the Makawrap would be the way to go, otherwise get the Pearce grips. Just my $0.02 :D

Wade,

Do you know if it's possible to remove the finger grooved on the Makawrap and still leave them functional? I like them because they're thin, but I can't get used to the finger grooves.

Thought about that, but wasn't sure it would work. I'm sort of partial to finger grooves, but I may try it in the future. Thanks for the info, Tecolote.

I tried the wood grip on my Makarov but it was too large. Cutting it down might weaken it to the point of failure. I then tried the Makawrap and liked it much better but I hated the finger grooves which did not match up properly with my fingers. I then took a fairly large and course file and removed them. It was successful and is not apparent except on very close examination. I am not very skilled with a file so anyone should be able to do the same. Be careful not to scratch the gun. You might want to tape over the metal while filing. It would be difficult for me to file the grip if it was off the gun. I even rounded off some of the corners which made it more comfortable. Someone really needs to design a better grip but the filed Makawrap is acceptable.
