Need measurements for 870 with Mesa Tactical and Surefire Forend

Greetings!

I'm starting to "accumulate" a home defense shotgun; I'm purchasing a base Remington 870 Express Synthetic 7 Round. Over time, I'll put (or have put on it) a Mesa Tactical Stock and a Surefire Weaponlight Forend. Other than a nice bright bead, that's all I want on it.

I'm also looking at how to keep the shotgun safely stored. There's a product called GunCasket that looks interesting, but I'm not sure if the shotgun would fit after the accessories above were mounted. Does anyone have the configuration I listed above that could give me some rough measurements? The particular product in question is 7 inches by 4 inches by 5 foot.

I have that exact 870. I did modify it with a speedfeed forearm ,Knoxx industries m4 style stock and a Mesa Tactical 6 shot side saddle shell holder.

Not exactly what your wanting but mine measures 40" fully extended 21/2" wide with shells and holder and 7 1/4" at it's tallest point which is the grip area. I could shave a little of the height without the shells and holder. So the 7 inches is probably going to be your only tight area. But i'm not sure how big those surefire forearms are.

And be prepared for all the extra weight cause mine got heavy real fast, too heavy. I'm actually considering putting some of it back because it is so heavy, especially if you try to use 3" shells.

You are right - it's easy to turn a shotgun into a huge heavy tactical lump. It sounds like a GunCasket is going to be iffy if the shotgun has too much equipment, and the Mesa / Surefire combo sound pretty heavy.

As far as the shotgun itself goes, I've got a Remington 870 Express Synthetic 7 Round on order, but in 20 gauge. That has enough oomph for intruders, but not require any special recoil reducing devices. Easier on my wife to boot.

That leaves three things, which I can take my sweet time thinking about (which also spreads out my expenses):
  • My house has several pets, so I'd like a light to identify targets; the Elzetta flashlight mount looks to be simple and effective.
  • I'd like a nice big bead sight - no ghost systems, no red dots, just a simple high visibility bead. No choices in mind yet, but I'll keep my eyes open.
  • A good recoil pad.
It won't win any tacti-cool beauty contests, but it should do home defense just fine.

Well a limbsaver is a cheap great alternative to the shock absorbing stocks. I had one it made a good improvement over the stock recoil pad. I changed my stock mainly because of the length was too long for me. I had to bring the gun way out before i could put it to my shoulder. It was just annoying.
