Need Marlin 39M help please

Short version: I need a firing pin for a Model 39M, but caught wind of the idea that there are two versions of this firing pin... a pre and post-1975 and they are not compatible.

So next step was to try and date the rifle, so I found this link:

...and it helped me to date the rifle as one manufactured in 1973.

Serial number of this rifle is 27137xxx
I have not yet contacted Marlin because it's the weekend, but yes, I will be doing that during business hours, but I thought I'd roll it by you good folks first.

Would anyone happen to know if there is indeed a pre and post-1975 version of this firing pin? I don't mind buying an overpriced firing pin and pay some out of line amount to ship it, but I'll be danged if I'm going to do all that nonsense for one that doesn't fit!

The problem I'm having is that I can't seem to find any supplier that distinguishes between the two, so I'm not sure if there -IS- two different versions.

I will be happy to post the long version of this story if anyone wants to hear it!
 
Call Brownells @1-800-741-0015. Extension 3 will get you tech support for which pin you need, then switch to sales--I happen to know they have both styles in stock. Usual disclaimers. Goatwhiskers

I spent a half hour on that site last night but never found an "old model."

Of course, when you click each one, you see two different schematics of two different rifles but when you call up the firing pins, they look exactly the same in the picture.

I'll where I can get with this tomorrow.

In the Gun Parts Corp catalog, the old and new 39/39A/39M have a different drawing and different key numbers for parts. But if you look at the GPC stock number for the firing pin (416260) they are the same. So the firing pins are the same.

I'm in the middle of repairing an early one right now---waiting on parts. The early ones definitely have a different firing pin. Goat
