After browsing a local fireworks store many years ago and purchasing a few of the "smoke bombs" that you light...well that got me thinking, "I want a REAL smoke grenade". Why? Because in the right occasion, be it a prank, etc etc, it'd be awesome to have! Well, today I randomly found a source! Ok, for $40 for 30 seconds, that's $1.33 per second of "fun". But still, I'd like to try at least one! Has anyone any experience with any of these? Or a cheaper source?

In one of my previous lifes, we used these to check the air tight integrety of enclosures. I ordered different types from McMaster Carr. I remember that you had a choice on the burn time. I also used them to drop down coyote dens. Not very sporting but it's coyotes. ......

Be Safe !!!

You can make your own relatively easily. there not explosive and include no powder, they just burn and smoke. Youtube has some videos on it.

I have a bunch of ALS smoke grenades. I never really give them much thought. I think the better value is those orange signal smoke devices that light like a road flare. You find them in the marine section of Cabela's stores.

Those are fun for d1cking around.

My friends and I used to buy the Army ones surplus when we were in high school(20 years ago:eek:), they were around $5.00 each, if I'm not mistaken.

Be aware that the Army ones put a huge amount of smoke, like so much that you can't readily hide it if you need too... (like you get busted playing a prank)

I'd suggest popping one off before you do anything else with it, just so you know what you're dealing with.

Also, times have changed in the twenty years since we used to prank folks with them, I'd be very careful what I did with them today...

+1 to Dr Strangelove's comment. make sure you are setting them off in the open. they will fill up even a large room/network of rooms with smoke. had a soldier taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation while i was on staff duty not long ago. the room he was in was very well ventilated (it was at a MOUT site and had no glass in windows and no doors) but still filled right up
