need info on savage m720 shotgun

I believe that is going to be an early one. I have one with #604XX that was supposed to have been born in about 1940 and a #921XX from probably 1945 or 46. Savage produce the 720 from 1930 to 1949.

I have one that is serial 51xxx thats going to the gunshow this weekend to be sold. I could never find any info about it online, but my gunsmith says they are popular and will sell easily. I find that alitttle hard to swallow since very little info is found online about them.

model 720

i know i have research the web. bought a book called savage & stevens arms and other then a picture the only info i found about year made was 1930 to 1949. contacted savage arms but they say they have no info because some how when the new owner purchase the company they did not receive any old info on prior company sales because it would make them liable for any of the weapons made prior to the purchase of the company.

The Savage 720 is somewhat of a Browning Clone, same disassem etc however, I have found that the lower tang takes a greatter degree of angle as opposed to the Browning. So replacement stocks from Browning do not fit exactly.

I found some good info in the book "FN...BROWNING Armorer to the world" by Gene Gangarosa,JR.
One of them was my dads, the other I found at Cabelas for $115.

What about the sporting version? Ser # 104XXX? Anyone have a guess as to what year that may have been made and it's approximate value (not that I would ever sell it as it will ALWAYS stay in the family)? Have a really clean one, once owned by a my grandfather in 12 ga with all the factory engraving (beautiful) that my grandfather bought from his brother-in-law when the brother-in-law was in a financial mess. Guessing it's been in the family 50-60 years or so. I am sure there are plenty of 720's around, but I have never seen another one other than my own. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks!
