Need info on rifle

I went over to a friend's house to look at a rifle that his father owned when alive. What I had originally been told was an M1 Garand turned out to be a bolt action rifle made by Birmingham Small Arms. The caliber was 30.06. It had a hooded sight and 24" barrel. The only other markings on the gun was the word "Majestic" on the top of the bolt. It was in excellent condition and looked to be of recent (last 20 yrs or so) manufacture.

I know this isn't much to go on, but any information regarding quality, worth, etc. would be appreciated.

Quality is good. I don't have a Blue Book in front of me, but I think that the BSA rifles were imported from the early 1970s until the middle 1980s. A friend's father had one in .222, and it was a freaking tack driver.

Value I'm not sure about, but I would suspect that it would be in the ballpark with a used Remington or Howa from the same time frame.

Two choices.
Majestic Featherweight Deluxe......mfg 1959-1965....98percent, 250.00; 95%, 220.00.

Majestic Deluxe. Same time frame, same prices. has heavier barrel.

Both had European styled stocks.

Thanks to Fjestad.

BSA Monarch Majestic

I've got one of these, bought about 1975, made 1961. It's a Monarch-Majestic 30-06 featherweight that weighs 6.25 lbs complete with mounts (Parker-Hale) scope (Redfield 4X) and sling.
Despite the caliber and light weight, recoil is not a problem, as the BSA factory cut a muzzel brake into the barrel (called a BESA recoil reducer) that works! (20 years before Magnaporting).
Felt recoil is considerably less than any other 30-06 I've ever shot. With it's whippy little barrel, it is dead on accurate for the first 3 rounds, after which, it tends to string the shots vertically. A target rifle it isn't, but for carrying all day to shoot it once, it's the best hunting rifle I own.
If you find one, get it! The action BTW, is slicker than oil, and the blueing and wood-to-metal fit is as good as custom rifles.;)
The English were excellent gunsmiths...........once:rolleyes:

The English still make wonderful guns. Masterpiece double rifles costing as much as a small house, and air rifles that are pieces of art.
