Need info on H&K P9s

I found one used in a pawn shop yesterday. I liked it but don't know much about them. Anybody that can give me some feedback, would be appreciated. Also, I can get this one for around $425.00. It is a standard P9s in .9mm.

It depends on what you want it for and its' condition, but if it is in good shape even without a box $425 is not a bad price at all. The standard model in 9mm is the least expensive of the bunch, but I would still think the price would be closer to $600 in a box. Things to remember are that it is a full size gun and large for a single stack 9mm. Other guns to considier that are smaller and would have mags and parts easier to find would be a SIG P225 or P239, Walther P5 and P5C, Kahr K9. In the same size you can get a double stack in a Glock, Browning, SIG, H&K, or Beretta. I have the .45 ACP P9S Target and love it. It has one of the best factory triggers ever offered, but that can't be said for the standard mobels. In 9mm THE P9S to have is the Competition model.

If it is in 95% condition it is worth $400, 98% is worth $525, and 100% is worth $650. I have a P9S Target model in 9mm and the Combat model in .45. The triggers are excellent in both guns and the accuracy is truly incredible. You would have a difficult time finding a more accurate factory pistol.

The thing to watch for with the P9S models is the plastic buffer in the forward portion of the frame. These deteriorate after several thousand rounds. Getting replacements is difficult since HK refuses to deal with the public. HK dealers I have tried to deal with are about as bad. I have tried to get replacement buffers as an insurance policy for over a year now with no luck.

If you are wanting a shooter to abuse don't buy it since getting parts is next to impossible. If you are looking for an occasional shooter then get it.

Better check the condition of the plastic buffer and the slide. As already mentioned HK "doesn't deal with the public"; the main reason why bought my Walther P99 instead of a HK USP (and I never regret it !)

I know of reported failures were the slide cracked in way of the manual safety lever (vertical crack on the left side from the lever bore down to the edge of the slide). HK never accepted any warranty and the owner could scrap his expensive gun.

Considering that it is hardly possible to get replacement buffers (and replacements are a must) I would recommend to choose another gun.

Sorry for the dissapointment.

Sgt. 830,

You might want to check the HKPRO web site. See if some one there can help you. I know nothing of the P9S.
