Hi guys,

Been lurking here for a while now, I am impressed by all the tips etc I have been able to read here !! Anyway, I have an urgent query... I have been offered an Astra 90, but I have not been able to find out too much about it from the net.. It has a Sig style de-cocker and a slide mounted safety, kind of like the Berreta 92 FS (Rear of firing pin covered).

I believe they are made by UNCETA in Spain. Does any one here have any experience with one? How does it rate re: accuraccy, safety, reliability, rugedness. I am Europe based so parts should not be too much of a problem, but info on interchangeability with other brands would be helpful

If it helps, I am using it as a range/practice weapon.

Ooops- I think in the states it would have been imported by EEA /EAA?

The A90 was made from circa 85+

I have had several Astra pistols: An A-70 (single action) in .40 S&W, an A-100 in .40, and an A-100 in 9mm.

All seemed reliable, quite accurate, and I enjoyed shooting them. Just the same I would avoid them today. To the best of my knowledge they are not made anymore and accessories are likely unavailable. The A-90 was the predecessor to the A-100 and was designed around high capacity magazines. Even magazines for it would be very hard to find anymore.

I advise staying with "mainstream" guns which are still made and supported.

Try that link for basic info and pictures of the Astra line. I had an A-100 that was very serviceable until I could afford the real mccoy Sig...

The machining and finish were not as nice on the Astra as the Sig, however, it shot well and held a 2-3" group at 25ft. without fail. The action was okay and the 17 round high caps were great.

Another link for just the A-90...
